I think all charges will be dropped very soon and the officer with prolly be suspended for a short time as punishment.

With this last video, no way this goes to any sort of trial.

Charges need to be dropped.

Louisville Police Department along with the Mayor needs to offer a public apology to Scottie Scheffler.

The lying police officer needs to be fired.

Anything less, Scottie needs to bring the hammer down.

Was he “dragged” prior to this video?

That seems to be the $80 question.

(Probably not.)

I don't think anyone disagrees with you on this but even if dropped it will always appear on his criminal history. If he is pulled over for a minor traffic violation and his plate is run prior to the cop approaching his vehicle the cop will see "second-degree assault of a police officer" popup. When a cop sees this they usually treat it like a felony stop and come out guns drawn.

OK, but suing the police department isn't gonna cost the cops money, it will cost the taxpayers

So what? They elected the people that hired the people that caused it.

The cop will claim "Qualified Immunity" and 75% of the time that applies and nothing will happen to him. In some cases you can sue the department itself for Civil Rights violations and the insurance covers this and then the insurance goes up or they get dropped if it has happened too often.

And what has been said previously will be true in that the tax payers will now have to cover the extra costs one way or another.

If charges are dropped I am pretty sure he can get it expunged from his record.

He's been suspended a bunch previously per the news.

So we lock up felons, but we let cops keep working.

lengthy suspension record

Yeah, he sure does not want to disclose this on his next job application.

I’m generally inclined to believe officers in most instances.

I had cops lie multiple times to me or about me or in court, growing up. They aren't there to help you. They're there to arrest or ticket regardless of most circumstances.

My hometown the cops harassed the shite out of teenagers. I got pulled over 19 times from age 16 to 18. Mostly just hassled, car searched, cussed at, and generally just standing on the side of roads for hours while these bozos sat in their cruisers. I did get 3 tickets and one warning, only one ticket legitimate.

I learned young not to trust the police. If this wasn't the #1 golfer in the world, someone's life would be ruined because of this cop. I hope Scottie burns this place down. He can be a good guy and donate his lawsuit winnings to a charity, if he fears a bad look from the lawsuit. Being on the wrong side of a lying cop sucks.

I wonder if there is anyone in the LMPD or Mayor's office truly contemplating that a police officer's complete fabrication led to felony charges against an individual.

Like a completely innocent person is facing year(s) in prison for that charge.

Now obviously, the charges will almost certainly be dropped in this case, but until those charges ARE dropped, he is still in at least some jeopardy of going to prison for a long time.

As has been said ad nauseum, that jeopardy would be WAY higher if this wasn't Scottie Scheffler and there didn't just so happen to be a camera pointed in the direction that it was.

This same thing happens in a place without a camera or to a normal citizen and it's likely their life is basically permanently ruined. Keep in mind the average person doesn't have an extra 500 bucks to spare, let alone enough money to handle missed work and attorney's fees.

The cop getting fired is getting off light when balanced against the harm his intentional dishonesty could have caused.

I wanted to give the officer the benefit of the doubt pending bodycam video but as soon as they claimed it was not there I knew this was breaking bad,

The city, police and DA there are stuck on stupid. Scheffler and the PGA are not playing hardball as they could and they have not dropped the charges. I do not think Scheffler wants to file suit but it will happen if charges are not dropped soon.

This cop had previous discipline and I would bet dollars to donuts he has a big file in New Orleans.

Definitely doesn’t look like he was drug at all. His hat is visible the whole time including before Scottie pulled up. It looks like Scottie rolled past him ignoring instructions, then Gillis gets triggered running him down and hitting the car with his flashlight. He probably only charged him to cover his arse for damaging the car. There are reports that he went to the hospital after he found out who Scottie is and to try to cover his arse more. Sad thing is that a normal person would have spent the weekend in jail.

Based on Scottie's lawyer's comments on not settling. They want all charges dropped. The police and prosecutor want Scottie to take some culpability, probably disregarding police commands in order to protect against Scottie suing and Gillis's dui prosecutions. The prosecutor fought the postponement of the arraignment to try to put pressure on Scottie to agree to a lesser charge.

Louisville police and the city prosecutor need to drop the charges and move on. If they keep doubling down, it is going to get ugly and probably cost them a bunch of Gillis's DUI cases.

I would not even call it ignoring as he apparently was told different things and was doing as officials had told him. Scottie was in gameday mode and the officer was in jackass mode. Without the bodycam and seeing this video I do not believe a word the officer says. He is putting his fellow officers in a pickle as well seeing this new angle.

Hopefully the golfer takes him to court and the police fire this moron and any officer that protected him. Cops protecting other cops when they are obviously in the wrong is horrendous, and we should be firing those idiots as well. Pay cops more and have higher expectations.

If they drop the case, it concedes the cop at least mislead on charge. DUI defendants will use that to impeach Gillis's credibility in their DUI cases if he was arresting officer. Gillis's main job is as a DUI cop.
