TIL: Kazakhstan is the world's number two Bitcoin mining hub. With internet shut down across the entire country, that ain't good.

Let's see how long that stated mission holds with the natives growing more and more restless.
I saw video (can't find it today) of several dozen Russian troops who were captured by the locals. It appeared from the video that they weren't welcoming them with open arms for some reason

Holy frick. I can't imagine how puckered I would be riding a galloping horse down an icy road with oncoming vehicle traffic.

When it happens in Kazakstan it is "a bunch of idiots staging a coup d'etat in their shithole country" but when it happens here it is "patriots trying to take back a stolen election."
Got it.
Got it.

Yep, they were totally the same thing. Exact same set of circumstances and actions taken

This is pretty much true. But is Putin annexing Crimea equal to Peter annexing what would become St Petersburg? I’m not so sure. Same goes with Kazakhstan. Only because I’m under the belief that Russia has more than enough oil in their border already, and Kazakhstan would be an attempt to keep China at bay.
If this is an energy move, even if only a part of the equation, probably more to do with the uranium than the oil given your point. Russia has oil. Kazakhstan has 40% of global uranium production (by far the most globally). Also brings to mind the uranium one deal Hillary brokered. Add to that the Canadian fund buying up physical uranium to create a squeeze. Makes you wonder.
Plus Kazakhstan has 18% of global Bitcoin mining (2nd only to the US) a decent bit of which is from Chinese exiles after China banned it. It’s strained their energy. They need more to keep up. Russia has that energy to provide and I’m sure would be interested in the Bitcoin business.

It is really interesting how energy of all kinds runs throughout this conflict.

Particularly when you consider Chinese energy needs and their recent spat with Australia and coal. Add to that control of Kazakhstan would give Russia direct shipping access to Iran through the Caspian Sea.

Another thing with Russia going in to put down the revolution, is they hate Islamic terrorists. They probably know a revolution there means those terrorists will be right on the border of Russia, and Russia doesn’t want that. Especially if there are Muslim Brotherhood type of forces there.

Probably a good reason why China would be interested in stability there as well. The uyghur Muslims in China border Kazakhstan. Those that are left that is.
Posted on 1/7/22 at 7:47 pm to DabosDynasty
They already have the Caspian pipeline running across the country, iirc Russia company majority owner. They sabotage that line, oil prices going to launch.

china is already running anti-terrorism missions in Tajikistan on the Afghan border. They'd definitely benefit from keeping them out of that region if they can, whether they do it directly or via Russian efforts.

Big difference - Peter was groomed by the European aristocracy when he was a young man. Gave him incredible perspective when bringing Russia out of the medieval age. Seems like Putin has been dealing with some sort of economic/global sanction every year
Exactly. Putin has no ties to Western governments like Peter, and he doesn’t want to play ball with their NWO. But is there enough geo-political capital in play YET for go time? Not yet.
The next 5-10 years will be interesting to say the least.

Just catching up with this thread from yesterday, but K-Stan has a sizeable Uyghur population too. Like nearly 2 percent of their 19 million.

I feel like Metairie had a sizable Uyghur population when I was a kid, if I'm pronouncing that right
