Yep. Best thing I have ever done. I was drinking every day. Probably around 100 beers a week. I didn’t have any withdrawal symptoms. It’s pretty insane to think about now. I just can’t have 1 or few. I wanted them all. I would stop here and there and then end up back where I was, drinking every day. It turned me into a different person. I thank God everyday for sobriety. Life is amazing these days.

I’m an alcoholic. Female- drank 1.5-2 bottles of wine daily. Tried to quit cold turkey and had a mild seizure. I then entered rehab and received medication to manage the withdrawal. It wasn’t that bad. I felt great after about a week.

Do not try to do it on your own. You could die. I’ve been sober 9 years and life is good.

If you are drinking large amounts daily you shouldn't quit without some form of medical assistance. You can actually die from withdrawal. That would be extreme but it isn't a matter of sacking up if you are seriously addicted to alcohol. It is not pleasant and can be life threatening in some instances. It just depends how far along a person is in their alcoholism.

AI says 2-3 days in, things get real bad and a person should seek medical help. DTs are real and dangerous.

This isn't a reason to keep drinking. Just pointing out going cold turkey without assistance can be dangerous.

I was a heavy weekend drinker and never became a daily drinker so the 4 days off each week kept me from total addiction. May last drink was March 7, 2009.

I had started drinking a handle of cheap vodka every day or so. Was going to lose my family so I quit cold turkey. Just night sweats, shakes and weird dreams for about a week.

Former co worker of mine was like that, except he had hallucinations and the seizures - needed cpr by the time ems got there coded a couple of times. Had to re learn how to walk after.

I barely drink now. I’ve quit for long periods of time as in years at a time. I drank decent amount when I was in my 30s. I’ve never had physical withdrawals. You are talking about more serious stuff here. Better make sure you talk to your doctor first.

Give this a shot. 8mg per fluid ounce. A 2oz shot or two for me is . And not having to drink 12 full ounces of liquid.

One thing I’ve learned is if you use it as a crutch that’s a problem. I never had physical dependence, but there were times I used it to cope with stress or whatever. I know that’s very common, but I don’t want that to happen anymore.

I think it’s normal to drink until you’re drunk and it takes more the further you go

Drinking something because it tastes good is fat people behavior

I’ve basically quit drinking but have not ruled out the occasional martini or whiskey & coke. Used to drink whiskey every afternoon. Don’t miss it even a little bit.

Quit smoking cigs a long time ago as well. That’s a disgusting habit.

That was incredibly dangerous. You were definitely in the realm of being at risk for DTs at that level.

When I quit it was via rehab, so I was on ativan to avoid the withdrawal risks. The anxiety was crippling for the first two weeks though.

Never want to go through that shite again.

And for the folks who were commenting on your liver being trashed, even that amount above isn't enough to cause cirrhosis, not without maintaining that level for years. I was drinking similar amounts before I quit, and my liver enzymes were back to normal in about a month. No scaring or other long term damage either. The liver has incredible regenerative abilities, and you really have to hammer it hard for years to make it fail.
