I can’t imagine never drinking again, but I really can’t imagine drinking every day for years

I’ve been sober for over 4 months after pretty much drinking hard liquor every day(3quaters of a 5th of vodka).
After reading many of these statements, I question my past experience. I never drank more than a 6 pack of light beer a night, though I added a half pint of vocka on weekends.
Muy alcohol abuse was fairly "functional," but It gave me pancreatitis and made me pretty damn ick.
I hear about people drinking a fifth a day, no way my system could handle that.

I quit drinking when I turned 29. I was so addicted I was drinking 6 beers on the way to work, and taking vodka and drinking orange juice all day.
I would start the buzz, and try to maintain that all day.
I quit cold turkey. I didn't do anything to replace it.
The first day was really hard. The second day I realized that the day before was the first time in almost 10 years I didn't drink anything in a whole day.
My life improved so much, so fast that I didn't really notice any withdrawal

Yeah. Thought I had it under control for years because I was still functioning normally on the surface. Eventually realized I was structuring my entire life around when I could drink without feeling guilty about it.
What actually helped me was finally talking to people who dealt with this stuff every day instead of trying to “out-discipline” it alone. I ended up doing a program with Dr. Ash Bhatt through Legacy Healing Center and it honestly changed how I looked at the whole thing. Biggest surprise was realizing how much anxiety and stress were tied into the habit.

Cutting alcohol will improve every aspect of your life if you’re emotionally regulated

About 6 months ago. Fortunately I never got sick because I never had a physical dependency. It was more of a mental/routine change thing for me.

You don’t have to get wasted to enjoy alcohol
So many of you people are feast or famine type folks
I love a good draft IPA
But j have 2-3 not 10
I like a superior margarita from time to time
But I have one maybe two
not 6

I've had ten drinks a year or less for the last forty-five years. Starting drinking at age 14 but never had a desire to get plastered or hungover. I only f'd up 2x. Once, in h.s. my friend and I were trying to find booze in a small dry Texas town. My grandmother had a stash - with a bottle of Creme de Menthe being the selection we made. We drank too much. It was the most miserable sick I have ever been. Having a round trip meal ticket with the stuff was even worse.
The C de M incident should have cured me,. But, in college I was tending bar at a party and I did too much sampling (whiskey sours made with Southern Comfort, another disgusting mix). I didn't get sick ... I just ended up buck f'in naked in the dorm hallway.

Yep. Moved to Bud Selects for the 2.4 abv and just spaced them out. Took about a week to be completely done. Just had Bud Zeros after that.

I took my last drink on June 8, 2018. I discovered that I can’t drink in moderation. I am not against it as long as it is done responsibly.
I had started drinking a handle of cheap vodka every day or so. Was going to lose my family so I quit cold turkey. Just night sweats, shakes and weird dreams for about a week.
