The OTC drug company I worked for sold to DG, WM, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, bla bla bla.
DG would set a retail price point (say $2.39) for a tube of Lube jelly. You took their price point and then told them how much you would put into the tube. Almost always less then what you put in the other customer's containers. The labeling was 100% legal. We plainly stated on the tube the fill and complied with labeling. It was just less than CVS or Walgreens.
They had a corporate policy that when they opened a new store, we had to GIVE THEM the initial stocking product. Then they would buy the replenishment inventory from us. During their big growth years, they were opening one or two or three stores a week. The drain on our profits was substantial - money you never recovered. Eventually our company sold and the new owners understood making a profit. They dropped Dollar General like a hot rock.
Oh - and they make their register folks stock the store. They hire no stocking people. That is why there is always stuff sitting in the isles that is not on the shelves. It is why much of the time, there is no one on the register when you walk into the store. If a register person can't keep up with stocking in addition to running their register, they fire them.

f something is cheaper it's due to it being a small version.
This week I purchased a small Tide for $2.95, a clearance springtime duck book for my nephew for $.10, and a 6 pack of snack size caramel m&ms for $1.00. In and out in 5 minutes tops with a parking spot right in front. Works for me.

Depends on management but I think they are great. I got to Walmart every week and a half and then supplement at one of the many convenient locations of DG.

They're small like a convenient store, but cheap.

If it hasn’t been said:
Walmart is a poor’s Walmart
Walmart is a poor’s Walmart

I would rather hang out in the Dollar Tree. Cheaper at least. And I can just wear a tank top and swimming trunks (wet) and fit in.

The DG nearest my house,in a relatively good city, is the worst. You can 100% count on multiple diapers in the parking lot and a weave here and there. It’s disgusting and I wish they would just shut down and leave my city.

I'm walking white trash but I can proudly say that I've never been to a Dollar General. I live for small victories.

I prefer the 99cent store.

Don’t these people have Amazon Prime accounts?
It's more likely they don't have high speed internet.

I can say that i've been to the Dollar General in Venice La and good god that is a depressing place. Sad thing is that it's probably the most happening spot in the City besides the Marina.

Not true nowadays. Cashiers do stock, but they hire specific stockers as well. Plus most vendor product is stock by vendors just like any other store.

Every Dollar General I’ve been in was a complete mess.

Never been, wondering what's up there?
yes.
I used to think like that, kind of but I went there before a trip and theres so many cool shite to buy for next to nothing. Maybe one of the most underrated stores in america. They should have mini shops everywhere . If you ever fly somewhere, you should stop at the dollar store and buy a bunch of mini everything. Its what I did

Don't know if it's a Dollar General on College Drive, might be one of the other $1 stores, but, if you know the frozen lemonade they sell at LSU football games for $6????? It's a dolla @ the dolla store.
So yes, I go there.
So yes, I go there.

In college we did a study of their business model and I remember an interview we set up with some regional manager or someone. He said their ideal situation was to have at least one store within a 10 mile radius of another store. (Dont quote me on that distance but it was really close.) There are about 4 or 5 where I am within a 20 mile radius.
Dodson, La, population less than 100 has a Dollar General

My Dollar General favorite is their fake Girl Scout Samoas.
