I have been a few times. On things that are no name crap they have cheap prices.

Name brands you would buy all seem higher than you would pay anywhere else

I stopped by one to pick up something for my kids to take to school and there were 20 people in line all with a bag of potato chips and a big shot soft drink. I stood in line for 15 minutes and they successfully checked three people out. My kids were terribly upset st me when we walked out.

Screw dollar general

Quite often. I live in the country, not many stores around to get things I need.

I was in the check out line at a Dollar General in Tennessee... woman talking to the cashier "hey!! hear this is your last week, you got a new job?" Cashier says "no new job, they told I'm just not very good".

I felt bad for the girl; where do you go if you can't cashier at DG?????

U have one down the road from my house and go all the time for stuff that we have ran out of. Run in and grab the one or two items and get out. Not bad.

Their claim to fame is having far more locations than Walmart

In college we did a study of their business model and I remember an interview we set up with some regional manager or someone. He said their ideal situation was to have at least one store within a 10 mile radius of another store. (Dont quote me on that distance but it was really close.) There are about 4 or 5 where I am within a 20 mile radius.

It's a general store, not a dollar store. It's called dollar general store.

Have one down the street and I avoid that place like the plague. Their cashiers are all retirees. 2nd in line means a 15 minute wait.

This is true. I’ll add that if the store is empty, the cashier will more than likely be in the very back stocking shelves. You’ll stand at the counter waiting 5-10 minutes before anyone decides to acknowledge you. Takes forever in there to buy 1 item, frick that place.

The grocery items including the chips and snacks seem to always be very close to the “sell by date.” I suspect they might by old stock from other retailers.

I've only ever seen dollar generals in pretty undesirable places, mostly driving through BFE

But they're liked on here so either lots of OTers live in such places or they're better in Louisiana.

Dollar General typically comes to market in rural areas without other options. At one time they were second to wall mart in retail square footage and sales. Not sure if that is still the case or not

The Dollar General closest to my home is fantastic. The people that work there act like they are working at an Apple Store and it as clean as a church. Love my DG. So much better than going to a Wal Marks to pick up some household items and such.

Go to the one in Ft Morgan all the time when I'm down there and need something they'll have. Beats driving all the way to Rouse's.

Dollar Tree is a true dollar store. It's surprising the stuff you can buy in there for $1.

I stopped in a rural dollar general outside Eunice a few months back. There was a line around 10 people deep waiting to use RedBox. Don’t these people have Amazon Prime accounts?

It's always an adventure.
Where else could you go to get tooth paste located on Aisle 4 in-between the potato chips and the peanut butter.
Then get a toothbrush on Aisle 9 between the grape jelly and the aspirin,
get a football between the shaving cream and loaves of bread on aisle 1. Maybe you want a cold drink located between the picture frames and the shoes.
Good luck finding that aisle.
