I've never understood the allure of going out into a mob of drunken people in an effort to catch cheap plastic beads. But maybe that's just me
But mf’ers will get up at 6am to tailgate for 12hrs before lsu plays ULM lmao

I find large amounts of 30-50 year olds getting smashed in public to be trashy and cringey.

Reading through this thread (what’s the purpose of it, anyway OP? Divisiveness?) it’s obvious that many posters haven’t been or maybe tried it once with bad results. With all the negativity of NOLA on this board - most of it rightly so, does anyone expect something that’s important to the city and the culture to get a fair shake here? If so you think NFL refs are competent.
It’s completely understandable for those that don’t ‘get it’. But for those of us with kids that enjoy catching the cheap throws, or those that ride, or that enjoy the satirical Krewes, or catching a toilet plunger from Tucks, or like the bawdiness of some marching groups, the gaudiness of a Bal Masque, or the creativity of float designers, ….well, if that makes us lesser citizens for enjoying something “cringeworthy” then so be it. I won’t judge if you hate it, have outgrown it, or never want to step foot in the city again. To each his own, but why crap on those of us that do? How’s our enjoyment affect you?

my wife loves MG, its nto my favorite. I dont hate it, but i have kids so im not getting hammered. Would much rather a ball than a parade though. never really got the parades...now riding is fun
but im also not a big drinker so its not going to appeal to me. I get why others like it though
now NOLA MG....yea no thanks, not 25 anymore.

This thread reeks of "I can't make it to mardi gras this year so I am going to sit at my tract house in Ascension/St. Tammany Parish and whine about it."

I'm not a huge tailgater but hanging out with my friends, cooking, watching football on tv, and having accessible bathrooms is much better than being the sardine in a drunken mob scenario he posted.

That might not even pay for the 3 - 7 day hotel minimum and food for Mardi Gras let alone the booze.

I hate crowds. Especially drunk, trashy, obnoxious crowds. Mardi Gras is a no for me

Best part of Mardi Gras is going skiing that week.

They aren’t stuffed into a crowd on a sidewalk though. If you do tailgating right it’s far far better than MG

Look forward to the Lockport parade every year. Wife's family has a huge party for the parade

And if you do MG right it's a lot better than how many of the nimrods on here describe it.

I agree. There is absolutely nothing appealing about Mardi Gras to me.

If you do Mardi Gras right, it's a far better tailgate than tailgating for a game.

Yes. We finally got Mardi Gras banned here and it's finally peaceful.

Balls and all the self-important pageantry aside, people who wait in line for hours for a cinnamon roll in New Orleans East are definitely cringe.

Stoopid take. There are a PLETHORA of options to do Mardi Gras without having to worry about any of that shite.

As a kid, it's great.
As a teenager/20something, It's an excuse to drink.
As an actual adult, it's a holiday to sleep in and get some housework done.

You'd need a damned helicopter, and those Uptown folks whine about helicopters for sick kids. Anti-Carnival helicopter is an idea that's DOA.
