Dionysius created the Anno Domini era b/c a large chunk of the Christians of his era thought the world was going to end 500 years after the death of Jesus.

Good, then there’s no need to stop using AD and BC.

I made a thread when I first started posting on this topic. I bet I had a different view back then.

But it’s rather silly. “Before the common era”

What starts the “common era”?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh

It's a needless change that serves only to placate agnostics or atheists who are also overly sensitive.

It doesn't trigger me, I just see it as silly.

What? No he wasn't. That's not how it works.

Most scholars believe Jesus was born 6-4BC.

I think you just contradicted yourself.

Who do you think made the distinction and when? Here's a hint, it wasn't recent and it wasn't atheists.

In my work, I have to use BC frequently. My rule is this... the Chicago Manual of Style says "Choice of era designation depends on tradition, academic discipline, or personal preference," therefore... my personal preference is BC.

If your personal preference is BCE, cool. I won't edit your BCE to a BC. But don't you dare edit my BC to a BCE. I will burn your house down.

Before the Common era doesn't require to pretend Jesus is the be all, end all like saying before Christ does.

It is a pain to explain to people, even though most have no clue what AD even stood for.

This is stupid and wrong. Jews have been using it and variations of it for centuries.

Edit: Also, to Christians or otherwise, is this really something to give a shite about?

Just say what sounds right to you, and if someone really goes out of their way to be offended by whichever terminology you choose to use, tell them to eat shite.

This is just another way Christians are being persecuted. Luckily Trump is fixing the systematic persecution of Christians because he is a big Christian and walks with Christ
