Les started this trend. People like to blame Ed O but the excitement was fading under Miles.
Unless you are sitting in Suites or Club with Parking passes you are treated like crap. Crappy parking, no tailgating spot, terrible concessions, some seats are bleachers, traffic getting there and leaving, lots of trashy people out there tailgating that are not even going to the game.
The list goes on and on.
Not to mention the sport in general is losing its appeal to alums. It isn't really a college sport anymore. These kids are not worried about college. They are basically playing semi-pro ball. The recruiting process is a joke with high school kids making announcements and changing their minds all diva like.

This is so overplayed.
Just because you get tired of hearing how much you and the fans around you suck these days doesn't make it any less true.

Close, but I was skinny, drunk, and stupid.

This is crap. The shitty gameday atmosphere created by the AD and constant improvements in the home watching experience are what drives it.
Miles and 0 have nothing to do with it. Bama has issues with attendance. The issues aren't with the product on the field..

I also think that TAF and the Tradition Fund have killed it for a lot of people. The arms race just became too expensive, and most people don't care enough to spend that kind of money. Schools got carried away in the 2000's thinking that people would continue to clamor for the product and pay whatever it took. That's not the world we live in now.

got that way in general with attending sports. I've been a Saints season ticket holder for the past 19 years and I didn't miss a game. I have a parking spot and would tailgate and it was always a blast but one day I just thought "meh" maybe I'll stay home for this one.
Between family business and me personally, I had saints tix for over 30 years.
At the end, it was so expensive, me and my brother had 4 seats (aisle) in section 116 [5 yr line behind visitors) So if you cross the aisle, prices basically doubled.
So then comes the Superbowl year and it was great! I get an email stating that thru the remodel, our seats would be "eliminated ". My options were to get moved BEHIND THE GOAL POST for the same price, or pay double for basically my seats again.
So for my 2 seats, you're basically talking double..thousands of dollars...basically $500+ per home game. And that was before the first parking charge, drink and food, hotel, etc
I told my brother to have fun because it would NEVER be as good as the last year. He agreed and we never looked back.
Point is, once I spent 1 year with that extra $6k in the bank, I couldn't believe I had wasted it for so long. NO WAY I'd ever spend that again.
It's the same with LSU. There may be one or 2 home games per year worth attending. You can always go and spend a few hundred for a couple of tix to those games. I'll go tailgate w kids/wife and hang with a bunch of friends. I'll give the tailgate guy a $100, let the kids play etc etc and watch a qtr or 2 on tv, and make our way back to Laffy (very likely hitting Pastime on the way out!) And home on coach for second half.
If it's too hit, opponent sucks, or weather is an issue..we stay home and have company over and haven't spent and wasted several hundred for having worthless tickets that basically have to be given away.

you can't deny that the TAF has greatly contributed to this current state of the gameday experience

It's so much easier to go to a Saints game compared to LSU. Zip in to town around 9-10am, grab some drinks along Poydras, enter Dome around 11:45, enjoy a competitive game with no Southwestern Rhode Island A&M filler bullshite and zip out of the city in less than 15 minutes.

I think it is a combination of many things and excitement is one. The decline of excitement started with Miles not with O. When you add the decline of excitement with increasing prices for crappy experience then you get where we are now and are headed.
I will bet Alabama does not have the same attendance issues we have. I have not seen the numbers.

Had nothing to do with Miles the coach. Miles happened to be coach when Alleva and F King changed the way gameday ran.

Well, you're wrong. Attendance issues are a problem at all programs right now. You can choose to ignore the actual reasons to shite on coaches all you want.

Gave up our season tickets this year. Friday night you gotta keep it low key so you don’t feel like death the next day. Saturday you gotta wake up and immediately start getting ready. Go out to campus and park damn near a mile away. Suffer in the heat until game time. Depending on time of day, miserable in the sun while in the stadium. Some games have been so hot everyone around us left. And we aren’t even on the side with the sun that lasts all evening.
Game ends and you have to hang back or else you’ll be sucked into the mass exodus. Get out the stadium and walk 30+ minutes back to your car. Minimum 1 hour to sit in traffic and get home. OR go to a bar and wait it out where you can’t drink because you can’t get a DUI but you also can’t Uber because it’s $70+ to get home after a game.
Pass out from exhaustion once home and have to use Sunday to recover.
No thanks. I’ll take worrying about the game during the 3-4 hours of game time.. and enjoy my weekend otherwise. Dedicating 3 days to a 3-4 hour Saturday event is finally done.

I prefer going to the baseball games.

The money for the rights to buy the tickets, followed by the fact that half the games aren't even worth face value. Puts the price for the games I want to go to through the roof. frick it, I'll just buy tickets to the games I want to go to and sit somewhere else. Same seats every game kind of sucks anyway.

quote:What? I just find it comical that some of you want/expected LSU to stay the same from the early 2000's. That's an absurd thing to expect. Furthermore, LSU isn't the only place with changing fanbases.

I am not wrong. You have a reading comprehension problem. I said I would bet they don't have the same problems as we have. I didn't say they didn't have problems.

I don't go to the game because I just don't like crowds. I'm happy as a lark sitting naked in a beanbag while eating Cheetos and watching the game. Going to the game seems like a giant hassle.

But they do. Saban has addressed it in the media. LSU is not some unique place.

Saban said that Alabama and LSU have the exact same supply and demand for tickets?
