Do you drink coffee and if you do do you use creamer?

I fought heartburn for a long time. My Gastrologist had me taking all kind of shite only to make it worse. I had a monitor put in my esophagus and had to get off all my meds for two weeks before they inserted it. During that time I also quit drinking coffee and Dr. Pepper. For the two weeks leading up to having the monitor inserted I did not have heartburn.

So after getting the results back and the acid levels were all good I started drinking coffee with creamer again and instant heartburn. I wanted to see if it was the coffee or the creamer. So I tried coffee with just sugar and didn't get heartburn, as soon as I add creamer it's instant heartburn. I haven't drank coffee with creamer since October of last year and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had heartburn since then.

Red Gravy is the onliest thing that ever bothered me from a reflux standpoint, if I take a couple of Tums beforehand, I'm good to go.

Omeprazole and pantoprazole both work great (Prilosec and Protonix generics). Have your doc write a scrip for you and the out-of-pocket cost for 30 days is $4 and $10 for 90 days. Much cheaper than buying OTC.

And I thought Zantac was pulled from the market because of NDMA being found in it? No Zantac.

Pepcid is the way to go. Elevate the head of your bed 3" - 4". And stop eating after 8 pm

I started getting acid reflux at age 28. I have no idea why. I started drinking a bit more water though and that helped.

I had severe GERD for several years.

I started fasting 4 months ago. I haven't had an issue with it since.

It takes a lot of discipline, but I've lost weight, gotten better sleep, and my gerd is non existent now.

Eating spicy food after drinking alcohol then going to bed is a recipe for Acid Reflux. I found out this weekend.

I wish I could fast with mine. It just flares up when my stomach is really empty.

For the OP, I've taken Nexium for awhile with Tagamet as needed at night if I start getting a flare/can't avoid eating some of my trigger foods. The best thing you can do is figure out what is your triggers (it's not the same for everyone) and avoid them.

For me tomato sauce and citrus is the worst. It sucks because I love oranges.

Somethings that I do to help:

- Sleep with a wedge pillow to prevent nighttime reflux.

- Don't eat at least 3 hours before bed. This made a huge, huge difference in my nighttime reflux.

- If I end up having to eat a trigger food or I just really want some spaghetti with meatballs, I'll chew two Tums right before I eat. This can help reduce the reflux.

- Lose weight. Even a few pounds can make a difference, particularly if you carry your weight around your middle.

This was true for me too, and very frustrating because when I felt hunger coming on I felt like I had to quickly eat something to prevent reflux. I used to carry around bags of crackers and stuff. But once I changed my diet from a Standard American Diet to low-carb/keto (primarily carnivore) and my metabolism adjusted, it no longer applies. I can now do 24hr fasts with little to no discomfort

1) lose weight.
2) you can also take a able spoon of Baking Soda in a few ounces of water. after a few minutes make yourself burp and you're good to go. (if you can't make your self burp you well explode so have you Health Care insurance up to date.)

Been taking Omeprazole for 30 years. Apple cider vinegar does nothing. Even if I fast my body produces bile. I would avoid getting on Omep/Prilosec at all costs however. It supposedly makes your bones brittle in old age and causes senility.

Got diagnosed with severe GERD due to hiatal hernia at 19 (thought it was heart attack). Took 40mg nexium everyday for 16 years until it stopped working. Had surgery a few months ago (laparoscopic fundoplication) and it cured the heartburn and regurgitation immediately. Only side effect was waking up a week later unable to move from slowly bleeding out into my abdomen and losing a liter of blood. Last few months have been hell.

I have the same thing. Probably been a problem since birth.

The pressure that I feel sometimes in my upper chest when taking the first bite of a meal can be pretty intense. Luckily this is rare for me. But it happens more often when I'm busy or under a lot of stress.

I started taking Prilosec daily in 2005. I haven't stopped taking a PPI since.

I’m not old or a baw, but alcohol starting giving me horrendous heartburn around 2016 to the point where having some beer on a Friday night would make me miserable until Monday.

I tried all kinds of things, and ended up finally Googling how unsafe it would be to take omeprazole every day. Turns out, there’s no link to it being unsafe if you’re just taking the OTC stuff. So I take it every day and it has basically eliminated it for me as of now.
