Store brand Omeprazole, you can get a six week supply for $15. Works wonders.

I am not fat, younger, and have issues. Onion and garlic seem to always get it going bad. I'd start eliminating things and slowly add foods to your diet until you know what triggers it.

I'm in the hospital for it now. Did an MRI yesterday and will do an upper GI today. Probably do Whipple procedure surgery tomorrow.

Generic Prilosec.

It's like magic.

I used to eat a bottle of tums per week. Now a bottle per year.

So I’ve dealt with it all my life. Like when I was a kid I had Heart burn and had no idea what it was, in college I popped Zantac like skittles (long term effect pending)

Unrelated, I inadvertently Started intermittent fasting. Which mostly meant I didn’t bring lunch to work and skipped breakfast.

Not only did I lose A little weight (talking 15 pounds no 50), but my heartburn drastically reduced to almost nothjng. Now I get it occasionally, but it’s a world of difference.

If you don’t care about potential side effect I thought Zantac was the best. But I think There are some Links between Prilosec and Alzheimer’s and Zantac may have cancer causing chemical that are residue from the process in it.

I am not old but have reflux. One thing I did that really helped was beginning to intermittent fast. I only eat between 12 - 8, which is one less meal. Which means less odds of eating something that will trigger the symptoms. I also take pantoprazole in the mornings which helps. Might want to go see a doctor as well if it's bad.

I would highly suggest trying to change your diet and see what works before messing around with medications.
I was prescribed omeprazole, and I followed my doctor's GERD diet guidelines and my reflux didn't improve at all, though.
Endoscopy showed I had a small hiatal hernia. I thought I'd have to deal with this bullshite for the rest of my life or get surgery.
Later on I started a ketogenic diet, and my reflux pretty much entirely went away. I'm not saying because of keto itself, but because of things I eliminate while eating keto, combined with the weight loss. My IBS type symptoms went away too.

Why not medications? Well, all the medications out there work to reduce stomach acid via one mechanism or another. I did a lot of research on this when medication and doctor's diet didn't improve my situation, and there are alternative schools of thought out there that mainstream doctors treat this condition incorrectly, or in a blanket way that doesn't apply to everyone.

Some believe the answer is not less acid but more acid -- reducing acid might make give you relief in the short term, but it makes digestion less efficient, meaning more food matter in your stomach for longer, meaning more problems in the longer term.

The fact that some swear by drinking apple cider vinegar (an acid) while others say that's a horrible idea shows that this isn't as straightforward as getting an omeprazole script from your doctor, at least for some people. Popping a pill may work for some people but I think that's a band-aid approach and I really don't like the idea of relying on a medication long term, as there are no trials to determine what happens if you take omeprazole for the rest of your life.

Always had it bad. Cut out most carbs, sugar, and drastically reduced beer consumption and I never have it now.

Quickest fix is to make sure you don't sleep on your right side. Sleep flat or on your left side.
Sleeping on your right side elevates your stomach and allows the acid to move to your throat easier. Try this before the drugs.

Going to a lower carb diet eliminated my reflux entirely.

Apple cider vinegar worked wonders for me. I started by taking it daily till it quit. Then I cut it down to every other day. Now I do it every 3-4 days.

I've had indigestion all of my life. I was skinny as a rail when I was a teenager. Always had it.

The best way is to not stuff your stomach full. Was having gerd until I basically learned to eat what I needed to not be hungry anymore and not eat until I was full. Also helps with permanent body weight loss so it’s a win win.

Do a few cycles of Omiprazole or equivalent a year. Throw in some Pepcids/Alka Seltzers/Tums in the interim of those cycles. If you feel a bad one coming on, eat plain foods for a week.
Don't let it control your life at all times, baw!
