re: Why does interstate work take so long? The 18 mile Atchafalaya stretch took 2 years
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 2/16/26 at 3:34 pm to Ramblin Wreck
1. Time restrictions and setting up/taking down traffic control in live lanes.
2. 99% of designs are done by engineers that have never done a single day of field work and are obvious to actual construction. They also design based off of Google Earth and not actual field layout.
3. Bureaucracy - these projects have money coming from multiple sources and involve way to much oversight. Office people/politicians want to be hands on and ask for more shite constantly.
4. Every plan change/change order has to be approved by WAY TO MANY levels of Parish/State/Federal bureaucrats (and all but 2-3 are not even involved in the actual job)
Ex: contractor starts excavating for drainage and finds a giant concrete duct bank, gas line, water line, fiber optics running exactly where the pipe runs. There is NEVER any record of who it belongs to or if it’s even active. So now it’s a redesign, 7 levels of approval, coordinating with utility companies that don’t give a shite about your schedule. That will add a year of stoppage time EASILY.
5. ZERO communication between government entities. Ex: New Orleans S&WB doesn’t communicate with anyone and is notorious for tearing up brand new roads with a week of the installation and they just dump sand in their jacked up “repair”.
**I work in this business (17 years) and I have seen at least 25 million dollars of tax payer money WASTED because of all the levels of retardation involved in every job.

re: Dealing with severe health anxiety

I was 19, in Orlando for LSU vs Iowa Saban’s last game - lost on Hail Mary ??. A few days before game I was having severe chest pains and panic attacks. Went to a walk in clinic and they did an EKG and immediately put me in an ambulance to the hospital. They ran all kinds of tests and talking about heart attacks and just doing an awful job of keeping me calm. They eventually decided I would stay the night to do stress test at 5am the next morning. Did the test which was normal and gave me GI cocktail (cured it all briefly) and said it was Acid Reflux……went to GI back in BR and had endoscopy showing a hiatal hernia with chronic reflux. Started nexium daily and 22 years later it’s still controlled.
re: Hip replacement
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 2/6/26 at 9:10 pm to gungho
I had anterior THR at 40 because of avascular necrosis (prednisone is a bitch). Don’t let it get stiff, push through the pain/discomfort and make yourself move every day. After 1 week I was able to work, take care of the kids, coach t-ball, etc. I would have pain only if I rotated my leg at the hip, but it was just a quick stabbing pain that went away immediately. I’m 10 months post surgery and feel 100%. When the necrosis in my other hip progresses, I’m having it replaced right when it starts hurting. I’m not waiting it out this time.

I had a Total Hip Replacement last April. Got a “THR kit” of Amazon that came with one that was about 3’ long. I would have had to wear flip flops for months without that magical contraption.
Side note: if anyone is having a THR, def get the kit!

You obviously didn’t read any of that….MMR stands for “multi-media relations”. It’s multiple schools (probably a ton of them) and I believe the penalty is a fine of the same amount offered (I’m no lawyer)
re: What’s the most pain you ever felt?
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 12/18/25 at 11:37 pm to LSUTANGERINE
1) Exactly 5 years ago tonight, I woke up very weak and struggling to breathe. I, unknowingly, was slowly bleeding out in my abdomen from Nissen Fundoplication complications 7 days prior. I had lost over a liter of blood, and that night it reached my diaphragm causing the most excruciating pain imaginable every single inhale. Double the maximum dosages of dilaudid and a morphine pump did NOTHING so the PA in the ER yeeted me into the multiverse with a max dose of ketamine pushed through instantly.
2) Nerve block wearing off after emergency colon resection/ileostomy surgery
3) Catheter being forced in with ZERO numbing meds or lube while stone cold sober and wide awake.
4) kids/dogs/anything surprisingly leaping on to your abdomen in the days after colon resection/hernia/ostomy surgeries.

I have Crohn’s and diverticulosis throughout my colon. Perforated a couple years ago with a bout of diverticulitis. Had emergency surgery and woke up with an ileostomy bag. Luckily was able to get the bag taken down after 3 months, and all the diseased colon was removed and now in remission. Good luck and don’t over do it.
Since my surgery, I have had some malabsorption issues. After lots of bloodwork, I found what supplements I needed to add and gaining weight hasn’t been a problem. I was back to good weight and original strength within a year from the surgery.

Sarah Soileau, NP at Ochsner babtist in NOLA is very experienced in TRT. My urologist (that she worked with) just moved away and she took over my treatment. After you get tested and prescribed, you do labs to check levels and prostate once per year.

For BCBS to cover, you have to have 2 separate labs under 300ng/dL of Free Testosterone. I started TRT 10 years ago when I was 28. I couldn’t lose weight, no libido, sluggish, fatigued, etc. My first lab result was in the 180’s and second at 222. I have been doing 200mg/ml per week, injected into thigh muscle, and my levels have consistently been around 950ng/dL. I had to switch to clomid for 1 year in order to stop shooting blanks and make a kid. EVERYTHING improved when my testosterone levels got better.
re: Airline Park neighborhood in Metry
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 2/16/24 at 5:55 pm to MsandLa
I live in between TH Harris and Airline Park Elementary. My house was fully remodeled when I bought it but most homes are very outdated (lots of small rooms). The neighborhood is great except for the week of NYE and Independence Day when seemingly everyone turns into a fireworks fanatic. My property value has increased about 25% in the last 4 years and I do notice a lot of properties being remodeled. It’s perfect for my family of 4.
re: Avascular Necrosis - Femoral Heads
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 1/11/24 at 6:10 pm to druit
I will be having the stem cell therapy also. Now I’m thinking I should ask about going ahead and doing the left side right after the right so I can just take short term disability one time. Just get it over with and hopefully not have any problems for the next 10 years. Thanks for the great information!

I have stage 1 AVN in left hip, stage 2 in right hip. Ortho wants to do Core decompression on right side w/in next 3 months and hyperbaric chamber also to try and help blood flow and slow progression on left side. Anyone had this operation before and can share experience, tips, recommendations, etc?? I’m 39, male, very active, young kids, work in construction (supervisior). TIA
re: Diverticulitis Experiences?

Ive had a few flare ups the past 2 years. Last august it caused my colon to perforate and had to have 1’ of colon removed and woke up with an Ileostomy bag. I don’t try to push through flare ups anymore, that ostomy bag for 3 months was horrible.

re: Small tear of long head of R bicep
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 4/29/23 at 2:09 pm to BeachDude022
I had a “small tear” a few years ago that quit responding to steroid shots. Pain was insane so I had bicep tenodesis surgery and surgeon found bone spurs in the bicipital groove that had shredded the bicep. The surgery recovery was around 12 months, but now I am pain free and still have same strength.
re: Anyone deal with diverticulitis?
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 1/30/23 at 7:53 pm to SouthernInsanity
I kept having attacks over the course of a year and the surgeon wouldnt do surgery because it was a small section being affected. Well, it finally perforated my colon and I had about 8” removed in emergency surgery and woke up with an Ileostomy bag on my abdomen. “Luckily” I only had the bag 3 months and had it reversed. Everything working great now and no more attacks so far.

Butler Brothers Tree Service removed an oak tree in my back yard last year. Price was way better than every other quote and cut, loaded, hauled, and grinder the stump for me in 2 days. 10/10 recommended.

I had 3 shoulder surgeries in a year. Bicep tenodesis, clavicle shaved, rotator cuff repair, and a wash out from septic arthritis infection. Ice, ice, ice and dedication to PT. There is no easy recovery just keep inflammation down and don’t let up on PT. Good luck.

Foot Pain
Posted by SMACKYtheFROG on 12/5/22 at 11:26 pm
Pain in the mid/outside foot when putting any weight on it. Had X-ray today that showed hallus valgus and bunion formation. Getting MRI also due to having connective tissue autoimmune disease. Anyone have experience with this and could share their experience with treatment or how you got relief?

My wife is interested in learning golf. What is a good beginner set of clubs and where would you recommend buying them? I’ve also began researching Operation 36 in the Nola area. Anyone have any experience with it? TIA
