Anybody give recommendations on some items that wont cause issues? i just pulled the items to avoid and 70% of the items i eat and drink are on the list. Talk about eye opening . Looks like a lot more oatmeal now for breakfast, chicken for dinner and mostly water to drink. Anybody else have some good tasting foods that aren't on the naughty list? Getting old sucks!

Not sure if this applies to you, but I used to get awful reflux. Had to take a Zantac 5 days a week.

Dropped a bunch of weight and I haven’t had reflux in over a year, no matter what I eat. I also don’t snore, so the wife is happy too.

Follow a GERD diet or go see a GI doc for a prescription. GERD diet helped but the prescription I got works wonders.

I don’t feel hungry like I used to anymore, but feel a little nauseous instead when I get hungry.

Watch the things you eat and when you eat them. Make sure you are able to sit upright after eating. Losing weight always helps.

Those lists include every possible thing. You need to figure out what really triggers your reflux. My big one for example is tomato sauce. So I avoid it a lot, but when I want some I know I have to double up on my reflux meds.

I have found bread by the big bakeries will give me heartburn but locally made french bread does not.

Also, as posted above, a shot of apple cider vinegar puts the fire out ASAP.

In a pinch, drinking a slightly heaping teaspoon of yellow mustard stirred into 4-6 oz of water will help.

I dropped from around 220 to 185 lbs and it totally went away. Since then the weight has crept back up and as I approach 195 the reflux started again. I need to be more disciplined. I think it also helps to eat earlier in the evening. Late meals tend to get me.

Don't eat too late at night. IE, dont lay down after eating
Eat more smaller "meals" through out the day. dont over eat at one sitting.

I had zero issues until I got older, then spicy foods would give me heartburn a couple hours later. For a while, I took OTC Pepcid as needed, and that worked well.

My doc prescribed a low dose of Omeprazole (generic Prilosec) that I take daily, and now I can eat whatever I want again. With my insurance, 90 days worth costs less than $4.

You don't have to be old to suffer from it. My doctor used to think it was GERD, but I finally saw an ENT and he called it Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, which is apparently different than regular GERD. I used to religiously take Zantac, but it turns out it may or may not give you cancer, so I switched to Pepcid complete chewables and they work better than anything I've ever used.

Had it bad then lost a bunch of weight. It’s nearly gone as I don’t take medicine to control it.

Flares up only occasionally now but materializes in a cough. Which is a lot of fun during the Covid pandemic. Dairy seems to set me off sometimes.

Take Full strength nexium every day. In fact a prescription dosage is equivalent to TWO nexium pills at the highest OTC dose.

You can also take Zantac with nexium. They both do different things so limited interaction. You can do this for a few days until the reflux is under control then stop the Zantac and stick with Nexium. Zantac has been linked to cancer so only use it for a short period of time. Avoid alcohol and dairy as those tend to be common triggers.

This is my doctor’s advice.

Exercise and weight loss helped me with my occasional reflux and snoring. Also improved my quality of sleep as well.
