If you're the one driving don't let your drinking be visible. You can only get a dwi if you are drunk and proven to have been the one driving.... If you see a bachelorette party just flash em your dingy, girls love that.

Seriously, when you pull around to help swimmers back on the barge, always remember to put the boat in Neutral. This way, when the guys use the prop as a step at idle you'll have no worries. If they need a boost just bump it.

Actually wait I can't do that on this site

I'll be picking up from near Port Royale and the house is north of that around Chestatee.

You are going to be secluded up there around chestatee. Last boats you will really see are just after heading north under the bridge. Its a trip to the party spots from your area.

Sunset cove is where you all are going to want to hang. its the main party spot. pay to dock the boat or anchor out in the cove. To the East of three sisters islands is a beach where a lot of people anchor or beach, but no where near as crowded as Sunset.

Thanks for the tip baw.

Are the water cops strict on Lanier? Obviously won’t be drunk while driving but my friends will be out of control.

I honestly can't think of a worse scenario for a first boat driving experience. I look forward to the World Star videos. Make sure you turn your ball cap around when the Popo stops you, it will fly off when you are sitting in front of the console on their boat headed back to the dock.

One little tip I didn't see mentioned that is useful is always drive into wakes and waves at an angle, don't let them broadside you. When you are running turn into them when stopped don't sit with the boat parallel to the traffic.

Lanier will have the cops out everywhere on the water. Don’t be dumb and don’t sit there chugging drinks while you are driving.

Lanier is going to be packed this weekend so it is other idiots out in the water

Lifejackets ON.

What kind of a podunk company rents a boat to someone with no experience? They'll share liability with you for any drownings.

You can drown drunk in a whole lot of ways.

Be real easy on the throttle at first until you get used to how it reacts. Some stick, some don’t.

Take bigger wakes at a 45° angle to avoid rocking the boat back and forth

When close to dock or wherever, kill the motor and use bow ropes to get you set up how you want

ALWAYS take a head count and look in the water before you crank up and go to make sure nobody is in danger or close to prop. Never leave it in gear under any circumstance when others are in the water.

Don’t litter. Cracking and sinking cans is littering.

I’d advise against glass on the boat but that’s your decision.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but if no one on the boat has ever driven a boat, renting a 24' boat for a weekend is a terrible idea. Operating a boat safely is not something that can be learned in 1 day. There is some good advice in this thread, but handling a boat takes a good bit of practice.

Hopefully 1 of the other guys will know what he's doing.

Disagree with kill the motor as you’re docking doe, gotta have positive control for winds/currents, unfortunately, ole baw is probably not going to get that in this lesson

It’s a pontoon boat man. Thing will be maxed out at 20mph on a lake. Y’all are acting like this is a monumental task, and it’s not even close. Just be slow and have some general awareness of your surroundings and everyone will have a great time.

I mean when you’re within a foot or two from the dock and someone can easily pull you without banging into everything.

When’s the last time you were around pontoon boats, baw? newer ones are tri-hull with 250-350hp engines, probably not getting that from a rental though

ETA: agree about the pontoon being a good choice if you’re going to go about it the way the OP is, pretty docile

I’m around much bigger and heavier boats than that and they’re easy to pull, so I can’t imagine a pontoon is different.
