I think he’s just dumb.
If he is trolling, I feel sorry for him for having to make up friends to get attention on the internet. Imagine living like that

Always anchor to upwind side of shore. When you get screwed up you have more room to drift ou.
Make sure you understand the kill switch operation. Simple but motor will not start if not correct.
Back out from docks to the channel. pulling better than pushing
use the boat hook to get into dock
an aluminum boat is not a happy place in a lightning storm

You baws saying I’m renting a giant arse pontoon with 300HP are mistaken. The damn thing has 60 HP.

1. There’s only one captain on the boat and that’s the person behind the wheel. There is nothing worse than bickering and arguing with passengers over shite like where to anchor or dock while dealing with trying to do it and keeping track of other boats and people in the water.
2. The boat won’t crank if in gear. It sounds simple but you’ll probably panic kill the engine at least once while trying to anchor. And you won’t get your anchor set and you’ll need to move again. If nothing happens when you turn the key, it’s still in gear.
3. Docking will be a bitch. The gas dock is the worst. If you have to, pull straight up to dock and use reverse to keep from slamming into it. Once someone on the dock has your line you are usually pretty good and can be pulled into where you should be.
4. Don’t let people dive off the boat. Seriously. The lakes are extremely variable in depth and can go from 12 feet deep to 3 in a very small space.
5. Also don’t let people try to jump off the boat to try to help anchor at the beaches. I saw a guy take a nasty leg hit from a prop after he jumped off a boat while it was anchoring and trying to help and driver backed into him. He got an airlift off the sandbar.

The good news for frickstick is that alot of the marinas there actually pilot you in and out of the docks. You pull into the marina, they come out on a boat, a competent person jumps on and takes you in.
That's how it worked when my inlaws rented a pontoon AND a house boat on Lanier in 2014.

That will be like driving a go cart on I285. You are still going to die

Yeah. They don’t do that for us on the salt water. And you get to deal with currents on incoming or outgoing tides to make docking even more fun.
The most fun of all is the boat ramp. Salt or fresh water those things are idiot magnets.

Rented a 24ft party barge for my friend's bachelor party next weekend on a lake here in GA. I've never driven a boat before and while it seems easy I know there are techniques and etiquette standards that need to be followed. Any tips for good boating and how to not be annoying/an a-hole on the water to other boaters?
Whoever is driving the boat should definitely NOT be drinking. A boat is like a car without brakes.

Drink all you want and drive the boat, it's nothing like drinking and driving a car.

We've all had our moments.
Top 3 for me:
Forgetting to take off the strap, jonboat floated the trailer.
Backing down in an SUV where I couldn't see the boat so I opened the hatchback to see, when I hit the brakes, all my shite came flying out the back onto the ramp.
Running out of gas on the ramp (had a quarter tank, but the angle ran it dry). I had to get towed out by a god damn kayaker.

IMO find one of your buddies that knows boats to drive and all that. While everything will likely go ok. You can with no experience do something stupid out of ignorance that could kill someone

Use someone else’s driver’s license and credit card to rent it, preferably the groom’s. You don’t want to be responsible for the deaths. Trust me, I’ve been there before.

Put the hammer down as close to shore as possible.

Don’t let anyone sit on the bow with their legs dangling over. You will get pulled over if the water cops see you.

How does anchoring work? Like is there a physical anchor with chain included with the boat that you drop?
Forgive me for my naivete.

You just blew it.
A greenhorn wouldn't know that an anchor should have a chain. A schmuck would think it's just a rope that ties to the anchor.
If you edit, I will too.
