The responses to this thread are hilarious. He’s renting a pontoon, not a fricking behemoth center console with four 250s

I’ve never personally rented a boat but I don’t think they make you do that man

He needs to learn right of way rules

Also remember LOOK OUT FOR Skiers/kids tubing. Last thing you want to do is chop up someone’s little Johnny after he falls off a tube

Once you get into the mid 20s on a pontoon they start getting a little heft, and they have a pretty good wind signature, takes a little know how, nothing like larger salt water boats, that can get to be a handful if you’re the only experienced boater on board

Disagree with kill the motor as you’re docking doe, gotta have positive control for winds/currents, unfortunately, ole baw is probably not going to get that in this lesson
I’ve been driving boats since I was 8 yrs old and I’ve been told my parrallel parking at a marina between two other boats is a thing of beauty

Tear your beer cans in half if you want them to sink.

I have to be good at it cause I couldn’t live with myself if I scratch the paint on my powerboat. Dats my bae

How have you never driven a boat? Are you chinese or something?

Don’t litter. Cracking and sinking cans is littering
If you don’t want people sinking cans then tell game wardens to stop persecuting innocent beer drinkers on the water

Hes a Tennessee fan. That's a landlocked state.

The funny thing is modern multi-engine boats are FAR easier to maneuver than a 24' pontoon. My wife didn't like to dock a boat but the first time she used the Axius steering on our new boat she maneuvered the 32' express cruiser in smoother than a lifelong boater could with conventional steering. It is so easy it is like cheating. At least with a pontoon, you never have to back into places.

Boating is a way of life in the heartland baw (but only in the summer)

Any tips for good boating and how to not be annoying/an a-hole on the water to other boaters?
Leave it on the trailer

He’s the same guy that can’t figure out why backing into a parking space is easier

Lake Lanier on a weekend is a hell of a place to learn boating. You should have booked on Oconee, you'd live longer.
Keep your head on a swivel.

Keep the party under control...same rules apply on the water as apply on land, and it is a lot easier for officials to see if you are fricking up.
Don't take the boat out at night...too risky if you don't know the rules of boating.
Pass any oncoming boat on the right. Boats that are not powered have right of way.
Keep an eye on your fuel...boats use a whole lot more fuel than you would expect.
Never start the boat with anyone in the water.

Couple problems with your thinking. One is, he is trolling hard. #2, Pontoon boats are not what they one were. Half of them now are tritoons and have 250-300 hp on them.
#3 Lake Lanier is the most visited corp of engineers lake in the country. And its really not very big. The traffic out there right now on a basic week day is something out of a horror movie. The weekends are almost impossible to ride.
Its like walking in the middle of the interstate with traffic flowing both ways.
If he is not trolling, he gon die
