I’ve done it with a bow drill before. It was not easy. But eventually I got it!

Use a bow drill. Easier with a char cloth to ignite. Or wax.

I’ve used a real match with a matchbox. Had to strike it a couple of times. It was a real bitch.

Used to watch Survivorman with my daughter when she was little. She begged me to make a bow drill. I went for it and was able to get a coal and fire. You can do anything with enough YouTube videos.

Any of the friction methods requires a lot of work and a bit of luck. Flint and steel is also a massive pain. Ferro rods (not primative) are often easier than matches in certain conditions.

Yeah one time in Santa Cruz, CA I was tasked with starting a bonfire and didn't have shite. I used the two sticks method and somehow got a fire going. I felt awesome in front of all my friends.
