Still driving my 2014 ford that I paid off in 2020, and I won’t be buying anything new until at least 2029 and it rolling over 400k miles (I just made 200k miles with it.) barring it blowing up or totaling it out.
I take good care of it. Religiously do all my own maintenance. Keep it pretty clean inside and out. I never get new truck fever. I’m going to hang on to it at least until 2034.
I’ve been taking the extra $628 available dollars each month and throwing it at my mortgage for the last three years.

I have a Lexus ES, and I’ll drive that for probably 15 years.

That’s about double the age what I go, vehicles now are too complex to run out that far for my tastes.

That's basically a Camry. No problem running it that long if you dont' drive much, keep it under 250k miles. A Dodge Challenger would be a different story.

Yah my Lexus GS350 is almost 10 years old now and still looks pretty good. Only 67,000 miles on her and I'll likely keep her another 5. So nice not having a note AND getting an $800/mo car allowance to pocket.

Mine is 675 a month but I financed a brand new Sierra SLT for 4 years.

The problem I see, more than the average payment is 740 a month, is that the average loan is probably 60-72 months and the payment is that high.

Yes, we are not looking forward to that. We have a 14yr old and 12yr old. Can't imagine what it's going to be with both of them.

Mine would have been $700 if I didn’t have a down payment and it was a basic model new vehicle.

amazes me the people that carry a car payment most of their life thinking that’s the norm.

It is the norm but it doesn't make it wise.

A vast majority of people carry a Credit Card balance every month.....mormal but insane at 21.99%

$700/month for 36 months at 0.00%. I was going to pay for it up front but at 0.00%, my money continued to earn interest while I paid off the truck.

New car dealerships have low interest. You get no value back from it like a house payment, but it makes sense for many to pay off a low interest car note than to run credit card debt.

Went through a similar situation with my son starting to drive not long ago. He got another family members 12 year old vehicle as well. Insurance for a young male driver is just stupid expensive.

We'll probably buy her something else for college but I think a 12 year old Honda is a perfect first car for a HS kid. It was ours too so I know all the maintenance was kept up etc.

435 for 60 months at a low rate. I’ll end up paying it off after 36 months or so paying a little extra each month.

$1097 a month but I traded my old truck in and got a good price for it plus put $7500 down payment. I chose to finance less months and get it paid off faster which of course raises the monthly payment a bit. Always try to trade my trucks in before the 90,000 mile mark. Trade-ins for diesel trucks under 100,000 miles always do well in trade.

Not having a car note is a great feeling after you've previously had one

Remember how good it feels and hold onto the thing for a few years note free

Put your note on 120 months baw. Get that monthly payment down.

Nice job of pointing out the stupidity that is monthly payment amounts. If you tell someone your monthly payment is $2,000/month, they’ll think you’re insane without ever asking how many months.
