I have a Lexus ES, and I’ll drive that for probably 15 years.
That’s about double the age what I go, vehicles now are too complex to run out that far for my tastes.

I’ll do it for my retirement vehicle(s) when that time comes.

Another reason to stay with ICE-y vehicles; EV won’t give us the chance to go long without factoring in costly battery changes.

I have a 2017 that I hope to drive another 5-6 years. They can keep all of these trucks and SUVs for what they cost now.

According to a report from Edmunds, average payments rose to $739 per month

For 60mo, that’s financing $37,000 @7% or $39,500 @4.5%. Doesn’t seem that ridiculous given car prices currently.

924/month.

But it's at 1% and covers 2 vehicles.

I haven't had a car payment in 20 years, if not longer.

I use low mileage older cars to go back and forth to work. When they fail, they get hauled to the junkyard or I give them away.

the flip side is with over the air updates done to EV cars (like Tesla) makes the car “improve” over time of ownership so new features aren’t tied to new model years…so putting a new battery in (which 8-10 years down the line will be even better than the battery you bought your car with) will be worth it

How long has this been the most unoriginal response? Why does everyone use this and why didn't it stop long ago?

I haven’t had a car payment in almost 20 years. Been driving the same truck for the last 12.

It amazes me the people that carry a car payment most of their life thinking that’s the norm.

Haven’t had a car payment in five years, but will need a new vehicle soon enough. I have the cash, but don’t want to use it and am hoping in the next year or so the market get a little better with better incentives.

Paid cash in 2018 for a 2015 Lexus ES 350 that had less than 10,000 miles. It was the last year of smaller front grilles and manufactured in Japan. I put about 10k a year on my car so I figure I have another 15-20 years before I’ll need another car God willing I live that long. I couldn’t imagine having that huge note on pension and SS.

Yes, and that was cheaping out and NOT going for a Yukon or Tahoe.

I also knowingly held the cash out and didn’t put much down because of the low interest rate.

Edit: for what it’s worth, only one car note in the household.
