Louisiana Republicans love them some government regulation and morality policing. Most of these dudes probably had parents that voted for Earl Long and many of them probably voted for Edwin Edwards back in the day.
Huh?

Your OP is about NYC.
Sure but the conversation has evolved
Seems like an attention grab. You of course understand that 80% of the OT hates AirBnB even though they hate NYC just at much. You received predictable responses.
You could have just as easily titled your post "Big City Gubment Bureaucracy Grinds Business to a Halt". But you know your audience.

AirBNB is illegal in the Florida Keys unless you possess a very hard to get transient rental license.

How many of the TDers bitching about STRs actually use vrbo/airbnb when traveling? I'd bet a good %
I’ve never stayed at an AirBNB. I wouldn’t want to give up the amenities that comes with staying at a hotel.

I can't speak for others on here, but I personally haven't used one in years, and I've heard similar feedback from plenty of other folks I know that do a lot of traveling. Once it stopped being a cheap place to crash for a night and prices became comparable to a hotel, it kinda defeated the point.
I'd rather just pony up an extra $20 or $30 for a continental breakfast, some privacy, and no ridiculous house rules to follow.
Have you never been on vacation for more than 2 nights? Sure a hotel is fine for 2-3 nights, but who the hell wants to stay in a hotel for 5-7 nights? What about for 2 weeks? Resorts sure, but what if I want to go stay somewhere outside of a resort area for an extended time? When my grandfather died my parents rented a house on Airbnb for 3 weeks so they had a place to come and go while they handled everything.
To be honest that was probably in a residential neighborhood also and I have no issue at all prohibiting them from true only residentially zoned areas. But my point is, they certainly have a market. I don't really understand the hate when used appropriately?

Same as many parts of New Orleans

What can I say, I'm a sucker for the air conditioning.

You're a fricking retard

Otherwise, AirBnB turned into nothing but an unlicensed and unregulated hotel.

Plus hotels have detectors for smoke and carbon monoxide. A whole family died while staying overnight at an Airb&b in Mexico City from Carbon Monoxide and there wasnt any detectors to pick it up.

That’s definitely true. We really should consider making those a requirement in the USA

That wasn't the point I was making. The point is it sucks to live next to an Airbnb based on my experience.
Sure, I wouldn’t think many would disagree with that. Like I said, rentals in general suck to live next to. The question is what to do about them, if anything.

Might as well just ban them completely if you're going to do this.

Airbnb has turned into shite. It used to be “cheap way to get multi bedroom lodging” to “gimp hotel with more red tape and less amenities”.
I’d rather stay in a hotel 10/10 times
I’d rather stay in a hotel 10/10 times

Its funny how different the responses are in this thread than the new orleans one.

It would be interesting to correlate those that have lived near/with STRs vs those that just believe in the idea
