This is just another democrat backed joke that will be a complete waste of money. This will never be economically sustainable without continued federal funding.

To work you would need 4 electric trains like at the Orlando airport on a larger scale that run back and forth all day on two tracks.
I see that getting more interest with more run times.

One or two trips/day is NOT going to cut it. Needs at least 6 round trips to make it worthy

JBE and the Dems, connecting criminals at the expense of the taxpayers.

There is value in that from NOLA one could travel to other Amtrak hubs. So someone from BR can travel pretty far on this who's willing to pay relatively little and tough it out. Just know that there's going to be major league possibly dangerous trash on the train.

awesome! haven't had a good train robbery story in a long long time.

There’s no particular need that is being filled here. The BR-NO passenger rail line is the product of the railway merger a couple years ago. This was one of the add-ones that was used to demonstrate that the merger would actually increase railway usefulness if the merger was approved. One of the other parties that didn’t get approval was proposing an even more ambitious passenger service in Louisiana. So as I recall from the reporting at the time, this was the prime moving event.
With that said, I would prefer that they implement a more useful product. Extend it to Lafayette and maybe Lake Chuck and have two or three back and forth every day and i might consider taking it once in a while.

There is not even close enough of a market to sustain this boondoggle and you want to make it more extensive? All of these places are so spread out that you’d need further transportation to get to your end destination . It’s like some of you don’t think at all.
How about the additional cost for this absurdity? $10-20 for the train trip, then $10-20 Uber when you get to your destination, $10-20 to get back to the train station. So $60……..no one would do that.

alot of people would want that, hotel room 200, parking 35, you do the math

It need multiple trips a day for any way for this to be useful. The biggest draw will be to get from Baton Rouge to MSY. You can’t use it for that with only one trip a day. You’d fly in an either wait for hours or wait until the next day to take it back to BR.
Usual Louisiana half arse bullshite. They tout a commuter train for years and they come up with basic Amtrak service that’s no different than what Hammond already has to New Orleans with the City of New Orleans train.

Pretty much this. Reliable rail service from Baton Rouge to MSY would actually be somewhat useful. It’s completely useless with 1 trip per day.

I think this was basically a regulatory play to get the CP-KCS merger approved. The new CPKC will milk the government for subsidies to improve their track, then they won’t have any further reason to really accommodate anything beyond their initial Amtrak agreement.

I’d take the train if it helps me avoid paying $140 in parking fees at the airport
How much is the train ticket and how much is it to park at the train station?

I look forward to leaving my truck at the Amtrak parking lot by the Greyhound station.
Why wouldn’t you Uber?

No way that 75 to 90 minutes estimate will hold up. This will be a complete boondoggle.

Per usual great use of spending by this state.
With 7 damn stops, might do better just driving.

It has to at least be arguably viable. One-way tickets between New Orleans and Baton Rouge is not viable or useful. You have to be able to use the train without being required to spend the night in the other town. There's nothing odd about that.

In a reasonable world figure $18 each way from Gonzales. There very well could be cheaper rates below $10 though.
Doubt they charge for a parking lot there. Laplace has said they aren't charging for theirs. Probably 50 spots at most though.
