Am I the only one that finds it weird when people have obituaries that read like a resume?

Who are the surviving family members trying to impress?
John Smith dropped dead today.
He was the leading salesman for the southeast region of blah company three years running before being promoted to director of sales where he landed many top accounts blah blah blah.
who gives a rats a$$?
And now he's dead, just like the janitor.
How about he liked fishing with the grandkids and duck hunting with his black lab ?

It’s disgusting the way you white men continue to enslave these animals.

Lived a great life, he spent his time complaining about obituaries anonymously on the internet… How’s that for an obit?

You don't think an obituary should mention someone's accomplishments?

I agree with the OP. I want to read more personal stuff and not a resume.
Frankly I don’t want an obituary. Just cremate me and pour my ashes into the beach surf at sunset.

If the surviving family members elect to draft the obituary with that information, it probably speaks to the personality of the deceased.
There’s no need to be upset about it. The individual valued different things than you.

It wound be pretty shitty if John died in the duck blind from a severe anaphylaxis reaction to dog hair

I wish more obits had how the person died.

You’re fricked in the head

Sally: At least I got the apartment.
Harry: That's what everybody says to me too. But really what's so hard about finding an apartment? What you do is, you read the obituary column. Yeah, you find out who died, and go to the building and then you tip the doorman. What they can do to make it easier is to combine the obituaries with the real estate section. Say, then you'd have Mr. Klein died today leaving a wife, two children, and a spacious three bedroom apartment with a wood burning fireplace.

It doesn’t bother me at all.
Let me tell you what is satisfying. When a family is honest enough to admit that the otherwise healthy 25-40 year old that died “unexpectedly” killed themselves. Be it OD or bullet. We all know. Share it so others that live in a cave know it’s real.

We did in my sister’s obit because she was in her 30’s and it was very sudden. Didn’t want people thinking drugs or suicide when it was a brain tumor that had only been discovered 3 days earlier when she collapsed at work

Mine will say he left a message…”frick all of y’all”. You’ll find my dead frozen body around the balcony on Everest looking south and flipping the world a double bird. I hope everyone trips on me when going by. frick all of y’all.
