I would tell my son regardless of his color that when an officer tells you to do something, even though you disagree, obey his directives and we will settle everything in court later.

Pretty much yeah. We have given low paid idiots guns and power and act surprised that they make horrible decisions all the time.

The cops made sure of that by shooting him 6 times

Giving the officers a promotion for their actions 100% implies it was the optimal behavior and outcome.

To you perhaps.

1.) Verbal orders didn't work
2.) taser didn't work
3.) physical restraint didn't work

How many steps should the cops HAVE to go through in order to restrain a convicted felon who is illegally in possession of a gun?

Also they were on the scene due to a 911 call of him threatening someone with said gun.

No, no he didn't deserve to die. The cops were likely justified in shooting him because they don't know his intentions, but we don't know his intentions either, and if they weren't deadly, then death isn't a consequence he deserved.

How do you know he didn't want to die? He was in illegal possession of a firearm as he was a convicted felon and this would of been his third time in jail, most likely he would be in jail for a while. For all anyone knows, Sterling was not going back to jail on his own accord. He easily may of been waiting for the best time to shoot the officers for all you know.

That's murder.

bullshite. When will these idiots learn to:
1. Obey law enforcement
2. Cop says, " get on the ground, you get on the ground"
3. If you have a gun, say "officer, I have a gun in my right pocket"
4. Act cival with cops and I PROMISE you, they will act cival to you. Don't act cival, and you end up like this dude - dead. It's really that fricking simple.

If the dude would have done ANY of the four things listed above, he'd still be alive today to sling CDs.

When will they learn????

After searching "Alton Sterling" on Twitter, most people seem to believe he was "murdered for selling

That's because Sharpton was just on MSNBC saying this situation is identical to the choke out in NY a couple of years ago

I'm aware that they tased him

but if they knew he had a gun the whole time, why give him so much opportunity to use it beforehand if that is all that is needed to shoot him?

I'm just trying to understand y'alls logic

I'll post it again.....because probably when they rolled up he wasn't brandishing a firearm.

You just can't win with some people.

If the cops pull up guns drawn they'd be bitching about them escalating the situation. In fact there was a case similar years ago where someone was waving a firearm in a park and a cop pulled up and led with a gun. He was crucified for doing exactly what was suggested by some folks here.

More than likely these cops wanted to avoid guns. They are pulling up and seeing if he's waving a gun. They see he isn't so they lead with tasers.

The only remotely questionable thing here is shooting him on the ground, but it honestly looks justifiable given the struggle and gun in his pocket.

I suspect other videos will prove justification, but that wont matter as we've seen in places like Furgeson.

It really is.

Dont want to get shot? Don't get the cops called on your for threatening someone with a gun and when said cops come on the scene resist arrest, tazer, and fight the cops while carrying a handgun after the cops clearly tell you to get on the ground.

Compliance would be a good start.

Sure, as long as we don't take it to the "comply or die" levels.

I know people think you should simply comply and fight it in court, but the system doesn't work that way for everyone. Surely we can agree the systems is fully capable and often does railroad people who cannot afford to fight it otherwise. We also know there are crooked arse police across this country.

Those two things can and do breed contempt for officers and I'm not ready to simply ignore those concerns.

Having a guy on the ground in possession of a small firearm does not equal restrained.

Simply parading a 15 year old in front of a gaggle of cameras 36 hours after his dad is killed is pretty terrible in and of itself.

why? being arrested, or even convicted, of a bullshite crime, is superior to death

there is a time to fight back and it is NOT when you're being arrested
