On the one hand, I agree with you, but on the other I think and hope she did some vetting, considering her history with BRPD and the mutual animosity between the parties.

I was skeptical of the witness at first because he said he was the only witness then mentioned he had a friend in the car. However, he has talked to at least 5 people - his mother, Kiran, The Shed owner, Allie’s dad and a BRPD officer he named outright. He also named some names of people he spoke with at BRPD while trying to reach a detective.
He’s given his phone number to The Shed owner and Allie’s dad. His mother has called BRPD also. If it’s a hoax he’s fully committed to it.
Regardless, Murphy Paul said he thinks the witness doesn’t exist while all of these other people, including one of his officers, have talked to him. Instead of following this lead all of the way and either finding the witness credible and protecting him or determining he’s not credible and saying so, he (Murphy Paul) is content to ignore it completely.
If the witness was a DD the second guy he could have been drunk AF or passed out. That’s what BRPD should be determining.

So guess what the gangbangers will do, move to the spots that MP just essentially informed them BRPD will not be focusing on. Instead of MP telling the gangs what BRPD is "about" to do, why not have sweep and actually get the gangbangers off the street before the problem. No initiative, just reactionary tactics. Nothing BRPD does makes sense.
Back to the witness..My theory is BRPD is automatically writing him off because him and the passenger had been out drinking.. so that is what they are hiding behind.

Again, if that’s the case that’s fine
But Paul could have easily said the witness information is not credible, does not support evidence at the scene, anything to show they are doing their job
Instead he chose to say he didn’t believe there was actually a witness

Exactly. As soon as we found out there were 2 suspects I knew the reward was the most important thing we could do.

That’s an awful lot of work where it makes zero sense why anyone would lie about there being a witness to the murder.
I'm talking about the passenger, not the driver. And people come out of the woodwork and lie about high profile crimes all the time. They'll even come in and "confess" to it

There may be ways to prove they were in a bar and got served but not they were drunk.
No BAC testing done? Can’t prove drunkenness. Hell, in this city, even when you are clearly pissing your pants and drunk you can argue it was poorly calibrated.

This is not the issue at all.
I don't believe the witness ever claimed to be able to identify the suspects or pick them out of a line-up.
Even drunk, their testimony would be valuable just for a general idea of what transpired.
