My GF and her Mom and Aunt and Uncle are in New Orleans for the weekend cause her Mom has never been and has cancer so she wanted to take her. Just want a heads up to send her way about sketchy areas she should avoid while there. I think most of their time will be in the French Quarter area. Said she just saw the building that went down last week which is crazy. Either way. If ya'll got any pointers for things to do or areas to avoid it would be great.

And b4 no pics you sleaze bags.

Yeah stay in the French Quarter. People are completely normal there and nothing bad ever happens there ever.

Try and avoid the random gun battles that can go down at a moments notice in the quarter.

Safe bet that the Hard Rock should be crossed off the list. Unless they want to see it crashing to the ground tomorrow.

Go eat at Tableau-get a balcony table and people watch if the weather is nice-thank me later. Its a Dickie Brennan restaurant located on the corner of Jackson Square, you can also check out Le Petite Theater in the same building.

Ye Ole College Inn for something outside the French Quarter.

Stay on the river side of St. Charles, but be leery about going beyond Magazine St. Nothing is really safe in the French Quarter.

While the location and scenery is cool, it's not even top 20 restaurants in the city for food.

Go to Pascale's Manale for the BBQ shrimp

Have a drink at the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone (Tennessee Williams' old stomping grounds)

You came to the wrong place for this advice. The baws on here hate them some Nola.

Seriously though, tell her not to spend her whole time in the quarter. Sure go hit up the old famous bars and have her take a tour of some kind.
Go explore other parts of the city. A tour of some kind in the Garden District is nice, but at the very least ride the street car down St. Charles.

Get out to City Park tomorrow or Sunday. There is a Cafe Du Monde there and it's a way better experience that the own downtown.
Right across the street from there is a pretty neat sculpture garden that they just doubled in size.

If you want to be safe in the french quarter, just don't go wandering around after dark.

Other than that tell them to head Uptown down Magazine and St Charles.

I'd advise to spend some time out of the FQ because it kind of sucks. Its like spending all of your time in Times Square when you go to NYC.

Its a good place for visitors to spend SOME time in but I always encourage people to also get out of it a bit.

Sketchy areas are abundant. Stick with the tourists in the FQ and on Frenchmen Street, and then head uptown on Magazine Street. The Central Business District and Warehouse District are also nice areas.

If they have questions on specific food, we can help, just give specifics.

NOLA has great food but too often people don't come with a plan and go to the abundant shitty tourist places like Oceania Grill and that garbage.

Barbeque and Blues festival starting this afternoon in Lafayette Square downtown. It's free.
