I guess there really isn’t a “best” domestic airline.

BS like this is what we actually need class action lawsuits for. No one will sue individually over $500 or whatever. But a group of screwed people can sue as a class to get AA to pay up and stop scamming people.

I hate AA and avoid them like the plague.

Even the "best" can have their bad days and the "worst" can have their best days and it can all change in a manner of minutes.

not a bad idea, this happened to us in February, we were going DFW-PHL-ZRH, and they downgraded us from Business Premium(that's what they're calling the class formerly known as First now,) to steerage on the first leg, my wife said she was able to get a refund though, reason for the downgrade was a switch from a 787-9 to a 787, how they determine who will be downgraded is a good question

I’ve flown delta 5 times over the past decade. I had delays and flight cancellations on 3 of them.
I’ve flown American and United probably 100 times over that same time period. Collectively I’ve had 4 delays and cancellations.
I just have absolute shite luck with Delta and I avoid Atlanta like the plague

today's traveling public shares greatly in what a shitty experience air travel has become, airlines don't get a free pass because of this though

Delta is pretty good. Foreign airlines like virgin, Singapore, Emirates are amazing. No reason ours can’t be.

By far.

This is what I don’t get. I flew Emirates a few years ago and it was a damn luxury and I was in coach.

Only reason I opt away from Delta if there are other options.
Something about that airport makes my blood pressure sky rocket.

I’d tell my credit card company

exactly.
Domestic airlines and the federal government have done everything possible to make domestic air travel one of the most inconvenient, unpleasant experiences a person can endure.

so who’s getting the first class ticket I paid for in this scenario?
The likely scenarios include a change in planes to one with less first class seats. I guess another one would be that they slightly overbook first class thinking that someone will cancel. If no one does, then a low status first class passenger would get bumped.

Gotta stay away from AA unless it's absolutely necessary - if you need a quick flight into DFW or CLT. Otherwise Delta is miles ahead in terms of service. United isn't bad but it's not as good as Delta.
