Only good things about the East is the Vietnamese community and Walker's BBQ.

Obviously systematic racism is holding NOLA East back.

I remember the ungodly sum of money spent on the new hospital out there. I remember being in board meetings about it with them and shaking my head at the corruption. Still can’t figure out why NOLA as a whole is in such shape.

Article behind a paywall. Dining and retail is Not an economic engine, it is an effect of an economic engine. Advocate is dumb.

Used to work out there back in the day. It wasn’t great but nowhere near as bad as it is today. There were a lot of good people living out that way.

Sorry, I don't subscribe to a communist rag that wouldn't pass for a high school newspaper so I couldn't read it.

And no one can say it because it’s racist but what’s the make up of the population out there. It’s not a stereotype or racist. It’s factual. That culture are like animals. Just put up a cage and let them have it.

Hard to bustle when you're told not to even stop there to get gas

It sure is amazing any time you read an article about "Why is this dogshit area of the city not like how it was 50 years ago?"

And all the pictures they show from the good old days 50 years ago are nothing but white people.

Really gets the noggin joggin

At the end of the day, people in that area need to truly care about that area. If you don’t have some semblance of pride and respect, why should anyone else feel that way towards you?

No matter how much money and resources are poured into areas, none of it matters unless the people who make up those areas give a shite. Some people in quoted in the article seem to, but how many of the people that live out there feel the same?
