quote:

The mother-to-be met the photographer in line when she congratulated her and asked if she'd be interested in having her birth photographed. When the mother-to-be revealed she would be having a c-section via text, the photographer backed out. "A surgery isn't birth, my dear," the photographer texted the mother. "You are having a surgery to remove your baby from your abdomen. That is not birth no matter how you swing it and I for one don't want to be there to take pictures of it."

quote:

The mom-to-be uses her social media accounts to keep family, friends and followers updated on her pregnancy. But with the backlash she has received, she says she's on the verge of shutting down her account. "My page has been scrutinized by strangers all over the place," the expecting mother said. She said people have gone through her page and picked apart previous posts and therefore asked that her name not be included in this article.

In a surprising twist (to me, anyway) the public backlash is all towards the mom, not the prospective photographer. Personally, this is yet another in a long line of "who really GAS?" but the social media public has to find something to get outraged about these days I guess. Thoughts on the situation?

We have a good friend who is successful, presumably a good wife and mother and a good person except when it comes to women having c sections. She will tell a complete stranger how terrible it is.

It baffles us.

I don't have children, not even married yet so still a few years away from that. But I had no idea this was even a "thing". Is this really something that some women are taking sides on? Why does it matter?

If not for a c section I would be dead, as would my vibrant, insane three year old.

People disgust me. Who cares? And my next c section is scheduled for five weeks from now, and I can't wait. I have nothing for women who are so judgmental towards other mothers.

Oh and and guess what else? I give my child formula. :GASP:

No vag - no camera. That's my rule as well. If you're not going to lay there spread eagle then don't waste my time.

Me neither until just recently.

A good friend of mine is having a difficult pregnancy and she might need a c-section. I was like whatever, but my sister acted like it was some tragic news.

I still don't get it. If the baby gets here healthy, who gives a shite?

you're a woman..is this a hot button issue to y'all? Prior to 5 minutes ago I had no idea this was even a blip on the radar. Do the vag birthers just think "well I went through a hard as frick natural birth so I'm going to take it out on everyone who didn't"?

If I had to guess those commenting were moms that had natural child births. Yes there is a movement towards natural child births instead of receiving an epidural or C-section.

From the class that I attended with my wife there is a sect of gronala crunchers who would fall into this category. Most of whom also fall in the anti vaccinations, breast feed until kids hit puberty, and family bed groups as well.

Even worse, vag birthers have to deal with the non-epidural vag birthers. Women will find any reason to hate other women.

I find the women who argue that a C-section isn't birth are typically women who have never had kids or actually been around a woman who has had to recover from a C-section. I think there's this impression that it's an "easy" way out. It's major surgery and it's no picnic.

I get maybe not wanting to photograph a surgery but if you're a photographer offering to photograph women in labor, then there's a good chance it'll be a C-section. So that's a pretty stupid condition to have.

what's even crazier to me is that all of the crazies on social media that are directing their ire in this situation are lashing out at the mom and not the photographer. I would have thought that people would see the photo as the "bad guy" in this situation, but apparently the C-section mom has been getting death threats!

Women, geez.

It's not an issue to me, but to other moms it is. I didn't realize this extreme cult of judgy mothers existed until I became a mom.

Breastfeeding, birthing, feeding (jar or homemade puréed food), style of parenting (attachment, etc), vaccinations, I could go on and on and on. There exists extremist Nazi mom's on all of the above issues. And most typically fall on the same side of each issue.

For me, I wasn't fixated on an idea of how my baby was born except I wanted both he and I to be healthy and whole at the end of it. If that meant c section, so be it. There were many mom's who expressed their condolences to me after they learned I had to be cut open to have a baby. And that's when I learned what kind of people I wouldn't be having "play dates" with. Parenting is plenty hard enough without the judgment on every little issue.

This.

Just ask yourself why a woman that give natural birth is kicked out of the hospital within 48 hours or so and why a woman that has a c section is held for a week.

Do these women not realize how many mothers died prior to modern medicine, bc they were unable to give birth vaginally?

Some women's bodies are unable to pass a baby, therefore need it to be surgically removed.

I actually think I prefer being cut in my abdomen than my hoo-ha. Just sayin.

My friends who had episiotomies couldn't sit down right for two weeks. Not that a section doesn't include pain, but if given the option of where I want cuts and stitches? I'm going stomach every time.

Of course.

I feel for new Moms these days. You're bombarded with all of this conflicting info about what you should/shouldn't do in feeding, rearing, etc. Then you have a bunch of judgy bitches who want to shame you if you don't. And it's not just younger women either, I had a friend recently that got a lot of shite from the older women in her family for not breastfeeding. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't.
