I agree with everything you've said. Thank you. Mom shaming is the absolute worst. The pressure to breastfeed largely, possibly 100%, contributed to my depression after she was born. What should have been the best time of my life was some of my worst times. I wish I had better memories.

My wife is an OB and had a scheduled Csection.

Hearing this type of situation is just crazy.

Also, to anyone who has no idea about mom shaming, just read the fb comments on that article picc posted. Or even any article written about birth or baby feeding.

That is just really sad.

Meanwhile...there are women that would give anything to have a child of their own. Instead of those women judging others for their parenting choices....just feel grateful they are mothers in the first place.

Someone got born and the parents want pics, frick off with this bullshite, prissy "It's not a child being born!" mentality. Oh, wait it isn't childbirth? Do you see the fkn stupidity? The definition of birth and childbirth, are you fkn kidding.

I'm trying to figure if this wall of angst is because you think I was saying a cesarean isn't childbirth.

You don't/didn't breastfed your children? What's the rationale behind that? Is proven science that breastfeeding is much better for the health and emotional development of babies.

While I don't feel much need to explain myself, I'll be fair and give an answer since I brought it up myself.

1) I did breastfeed but had to begin supplementing because I didn't produce enough to keep up with the demands of my little piglet.
2) Please don't tell a modern mother that breastfeeding is best and most beneficial for baby's health. We KNOW that. Believe me, we've been told over and over to the point we almost starve our babies trying to only breastfeed until we learn they're losing weight rapidly and we aren't giving them enough to meet their needs. Mothers today know this, we are constantly told.

So my opinion is Fed is Best.

As a nurse, you know it always isn't a choice...and if it is, so what?

Breastfeeding isn't as easy as some may think.

I saw new moms sobbing because they couldn't get their newborn to latch on. And look at me like I suggested to give their baby cyanide when I say "hey let's give him a bottle, you rest, and try again next time".

Those breastfeeding Nazis at LaLeche League brainwash those poor women to think that they are horrible humans if they dare give formula.

Yes...breast IS best. But in some situations...it just isn't feasible. Instead of judging those women....support their decision.

I'm so sorry you went through that. We are in the same boat. The first time my son had formula I was crying on the floor in the corner of my living room while husband fed him one of those enfamil bottles the pediatrician sends home for "just incase". The moment he stopped screaming and actually went peacefully to sleep after a feeding was when it dawned on me that my child's nourishment is more important than being able to say I exclusively breastfed even though my baby screams around the clock due to never getting enough.

And then I was so ashamed to admit we gave him formula for a very long time. How ridiculous is that? Because of that shame and isolation I just feel it's very important to support whatever decisions a new mother makes for what's best for her baby and herself.

Ok now, you are backtracking, but I will play. Who gives a flying frick if she pushed? A lot of c-section babies are done to save a life. If not, why the frick do you care? A life is born, it is beautiful and all, I suppose. Same as a vaginal birth to people who don't care. Weird that you care.

Exactly. I felt so ashamed for a long time. I still pumped as much as I could but it wasn't enough. I was driving myself batshit crazy and was totally miserable. The first time we gave him formula was truly traumatic. My husband calmly took the baby and asked me to leave the room.. he said "this isn't poison- our son is hungry."... just looking back on it is upsetting because of what the entire family had to go through because I was convinced anything other than breastfeeding was child abuse, and made me a failure. I definitely know better for the next one!

We all know the internet is a mean place but moms actually bring it to another level. It's insane because it should be the exact opposite.

Adopted kids like me and my sis didn't care where the nutrition came from. This is a very strange view. I get that "breast milk is best" but some of us didn't have a mom, or milk nurse, and we were ok (that may be debatable)

Actually more and more research is now showing that previous studies making these claims don't actually adequately control for socioeconomic and environmental factors.

The biggest benefit to breastfeeding in the developed world is its cost effectiveness. The main health benefit is seen in countries without full access to purified drinking water. The transfer of gut flora through breast milk enables infants to not die from diarrhea-induced dehydration and failure to thrive due to bacteria-laden water sources.

All the rest of the nonsense peddled by Facebook moms - super intelligence, Wolverine healing factor, etc. - basically boils down to being born into a middle/upper-middle class family with a healthy mother and healthy father who are able to provide a clean, safe environment and emotional/intellectual stimulation for a developing child.

That's patently false. Do yourself a favor and don't get your information from blogs and message boards.
