Oh, I understand that breast-feeding is often difficult and when the flow of natural breast milk is lacking then it should be supplemented with formula. There's no denying that. But I've also met others who choose not to breast-feed because they are more worried about the physical appearance of their breasts then they are for their children to receive the nutrients and immunities that natural milk provides. The c-section issue/debate is foolish and has zero impact on the long term health of the baby but science has shown that breast milk is far healthier for newborns than formula. That's all I was noting.

Ok now, you are backtracking, but I will play. Who gives a flying frick if she pushed? A lot of c-section babies are done to save a life. If not, why the frick do you care? A life is born, it is beautiful and all, I suppose. Same as a vaginal birth to people who don't care. Weird that you care.

i don't care either way, liz. but the whole point of the thread was about whether or not a c section is giving birth.

lighten up, i'm not saying a mom in wrong for wanting a c section. i'm not shaming anyone who does. it was a philosophical question and i gave a philosophical answer.

I got kicked out of a EBF (exclusive breastfeeding) fb group because I took up for a mother who was getting bashed for asking about formula recommendations for her baby. She was someone who needed to supplement and was having issues finding a formula that didn't cause her baby GI issues. Women were attacking her so viciously for not trying hard enough, not dedicating herself to making good enough Mother's Milk smoothies or lactation cookies... it was vile.

It is ridiculous but I understand how you felt so so much. I planned leaving the house around feedings so I hopefully would not have to give my daughter a bottle in public. Such a stupid thing, I know now. I wish you didn't have to go through it but it is nice hearing I wasn't alone.

I actually don't know any moms who didn't breastfeed because they didn't want saggy boobs. I've heard a myriad of reasons but that wasn't one...

IF the saggy boob complaint comes up it's usually followed with "can't wait to make it a year of bf'ing this last baby so I can get the girls redone."

That's patently false. Do yourself a favor and don't get your information from blogs and message boards.

I suppose The American Academy of Pediatrics is just some stupid blog.

No, it really hasn't.

In the modern world, breast feeding is marginally better in terms of immune system support for infants and that's about it.

New moms would do best to listen to their OBGYN and Peditrician and not a bunch of low-intelligence self-proclaimed supermoms on message boards.

As a woman who NEVER wants to have children, my philosophical response is: "If I have to carry a child for nine months, I don't give a frick how they get it out of me. I gave birth and I am a mom."

All moms who carried a child to term are the same "philosophically". As one who never intends to carry. Ever.

What you said and their recent recommendations don't align.

Yes and if anything, pediatricians push formula a lot more than anyone else we dealt with.

I wouldn't be here if not for c-sections because I have a great big head and had a little bitty mom and it was 56 years ago so medicine was that far back in the dark ages.

This is real, but it's a baby thing, not a nutrition thing. Those little suckers recover quick. And thank God for it.

That's because, when it's all said and done, its Peditricians and OBGYN's that actually read the studies and recommendations, understand that words like "more" and "better" are comparative and not conclusive, and whose asses are legitimately on the line if something goes wrong.

Not even kidding.

Facebook supermoms all think it's their magic milk.

They also believe it's going to make their children super smart despite the fact there is zero science behind that belief and genetics plays an expontenially more important role in terms of intelligence compared to just about anything else.

And mommy believing anything she reads on the internet doesn't bode well for junior.

Now that is just fricking weird. Sounds like the Mexican women who think they made their baby sick because they breastfed while they were angry (for real....it's some Mexican superstition)
