Disagree. They hire out far cheaper labor to deliver the packages now.
I witnessed one of them who's car got cut in half by a big rig. She was telling me about her job as a contractor and she got paid by the # of packages she delivered. Not hourly.

Yeah I switched over a few months ago. The $0.10 per gallon off of gas alone makes it worth it since I always fill up at murphy. We can get most non food items delivered the same day or early the next day. It's great for us being in a rural area.

Amazon calls that the last-mile delivery from local facilities to the door, and that isn't the issue. Amazon does have its own planes, trucks, etc but they still don't have the national logistics that UPS does. The loss of that infrastructure is hurting them, it seems.

Opposite where I live - majority is is generally 7-10am next day and some are same day delivery.

Depends on your area. I tried Walmart+ on 2 separate occasions and cancelled due to their unreliability.
The last time I tried having things delivered 4 separate times. Once I only received half of my order, another time I had to walk around the neighborhood to find my order, 3rd order was correct, 4th order was correct but also came with someone else's stuff.
90% of my prime orders are delivered within 3 days, unless I request a later date

I have Prime and get 2 day on most and sometimes next day. I live in Southern St. George.
But Walmart is catching up on delivery times.
I’ve been watching a living in China channel and the girl says items are so cheap (no shipping costs to the USA) and delivery costs so low (scooter delivery) that everyone in the big cities orders most everything online and has them delivered. Same day or next.

One of my kids & family live in NOVA. They get Amazon orders within an hour or two of almost anything that you could find in a Target or a Walmart.

It totally depends on where you live.
Yesterday I placed an order and it was delivered before 8pm last night. No additional charge. Amazon prime. We are about 25 miles from the big fulfillment center that used to be a shopping mall. We aren't even on the rich side of Knox County, but I'd guess enough neighbors shop Amazon to make their delivering our orders pays their in house shipping costs.

your proximity to a fulfillment center is mostly irrelevant. With the exception of a few items stored at the small centers (Abbeville and BR drone deliveries in BR for example), all packages from the fulfillment centers, whether it is Lafayette, BR, Houston, Memphis, will go to the sort center in Port Allen first before your home. That's Amazon's business model: FC, SC, last mile vans.

Getting a refund is now harder with Amazon. We gave Walmart+ and it's always faster, sometimes being shipped store free. I would cancel Amazon but wife likes it even though anything on Amazon is available thru W+

Yeah I think it’s based where you live. Not only have I not seen a reduction in next day delivery, I’ve seen an increase of same day/1 hour delivery options

I got something from WM delivery same day and a little cheaper than Amazon. 5 days for Amazon. Even with Prime it’s never fast.

Walmart+ was awful for us.
Seemed like every single grocery order was wrong. Even after we changed from the "Find a substitute item" option. Order a jar of banana peppers and you'd get pickles. Order protein chips and you'd get Doritos.
We have a walk way, good size front porch and even a courtyard behind brick. Plety of good places to drop items. One time the delivery girl left actual groceries 10ft on to our driveway. Just groceries sitting right out by the street.
The only good thing that ever happened with Walmart+ is one of the dumb lazy delivery drivers delivered the wrong grocery order to our house. It was clearly someone about to have a huge barbeque. Slabs of ribs, hot dogs, bread, all kinds of condiments. We let them know they dropped off the wrong order and the delivery driver refused to come pick it up so Walmart just said keep the order and delivered our original order. So got a whole barbeque order free.

Some items listed on Amazon are stocked only by the seller which is not Amazon. That seller's logistics are what you deal with. If its low-cost electronics and delivery is more than a week, your item is probably in a Chinese warehouse.

Yes, I sell stuff on Amazon FBM and understand the logistics, which is why I even pointed out in my OP that these are not items fulfilled by the seller

I've noticed just about every item I purchase with a "be there by xxx day" is late. USPS, Amazon, UPS, etc...doesn't matter. And I live in Lafayette.
