Just like hotels do when you check in, get a credit card authorization for each table, based on the amount of people at the table. Say $75 per person? Not a charge, just a pre-authorization to assure the funds are on the account. No authorization, no food.

Easy fix. Order has to be pre-paid.

Want dessert? That'll be another bill.

Don't like it? Tough shite.

When restaurants start making you pay before you eat everyone will get upset. The good gotta suffer for the DRs that forget to pay their tabs. Restaurants already operate on thin margins so this does hurt them.

The funniest thing about this thread is that people think those people actually have a credit card.

I hope restaurants go to after you order your food you pay for it right then. If the customer complains then they never intended to pay for it in the first place.

They don't care, they can be shown on internet or TV..They dont care, they can get arrested...They Don't Care, they can get recognized by coworkers, family, yada yada... They Dont care. You have to do something drastic to stop it all. I like the idea of you order and then pay for that order.

Absolutely. Payment will be expected at the time an order is placed. They aren’t going to tip anyway.

We're pretty close to having to prepay at a restaurant just like you have to do at a gas pump. The bill will come after you order.

They need to just authorize your card initially and "close you out" at the end just like bars do. This way, you don't have to keep paying when you order more, but you aren't getting out of paying.

This all already exists on the same POS systems many restaurants already use.

Yes, them too.

I went to Chimes East a year or so ago and they requested a credit card for the table before serving my drinks. It's already happening.

I caught on to this after some dealings with these types. The darting eyes and loud repetitive speech is a dead give away something is about to go down.

yep. which will make prices go up even further, bc off-duty cops are paid by the restaurant. that is how and why this stuff affects all of us. it's the cost of living in a low trust society, and we live in a low trust society because of people just like this.

I guess we should just let them steal. No way that would encourage more theft.

Might be cheaper to hire a cop for a few hours a night than watch a table of 8 sneak off.

Why not, right? Bars where you aren't known do it all the time.

Granted, it's a little awkward at first, but as usual the worst amongst us have to ruin it for everybody.
