Louisiana’s legislative auditor wanted to know how the state’s expansion of Medicaid under Obamacare was doing, so he picked 100 people who were deemed eligible under the rules.

He found that 82 of them made so much money that they shouldn’t have qualified for the benefits they received.

Auditor Daryl G. Purpera, who issued his findings last month to little fanfare outside of Louisiana, figured if those statistics hold true for the rest of the expanded Medicaid population in his state, then the losses to ineligible beneficiaries could be as high as $85 million.

This part makes my blood boil:

quote:

Two of the 100 people he examined were using Medicaid despite annual incomes exceeding $300,000.

Four other recipients had six-figure incomes. One of them, with an income of $111,785 per year, received $17,807 in Medicaid payments. Another, with an annual income of $126,284, spent 12 months on Medicaid and received nearly $11,000 in payments, according to the report.

quote:

“Every dollar that’s stolen from the Medicaid system by a fraudster is a dollar that cannot go to help the truly needy,” said Nicholas Horton, director of research at the Foundation for Government Accountability.

It takes a true sack of shite to steal from Medicaid while making 300k

I’m pretty sure the fraud is mostly occurring at nursing homes, where the kids use Medicaid to pay for the parents’ costs. They hide income

But will Louisiana actually prosecute these a**holes? Nope. Will Louisiana update their antiquated system, which would keep this from happening on such a large scale... nope.

I'm gainfully employed and with my max out of pocket deductible sitting at $13,500 for 2019, I feel like I need Medicaid too

I know someone that obtained Medicaid to pay for their wife's nursing home bill that made over 100K per year. The wife had Alzheimer and he couldn't pay for in 24 hr
in home care. The nursing home care would have put him in the poor house.

They hired an estate attorney to help do it. They paid over 1 million in taxes over the years and didn't loose one nights sleep over it.

I'm not sure what's going on in this specific situation, but I know people that have a child with severe special needs that are often on Medicaid since their healthcare expenses get into the hundreds of thousands, and even millions, rather quickly.

Wait, why did we take this Medicaid expansion? I can’t remember? Who was responsible for that?

Happens fairly regularly. Medicaid office will usually give you tips on how to get it done in order to qualify. It's fraudulent as frick, but everyone turns their heads.

Do you have any idea how much nursing homes charge? You're not paying for that out of pocket. They run through all of the old person's funds and they can only keep less than 2K in their account at any time. They'll take their house, land, pretty much everything and do it with a smile. Lady literally told my wife that they LOVED taking land.

You can pay for it if you purchase LTC insurance, but people hate it.
