Yes it is. Between 61 million and 85 million is representative to a 95% confidence level.

I'm not sure what's going on in this specific situation, but I know people that have a child with severe special needs that are often on Medicaid since their healthcare expenses get into the hundreds of thousands, and even millions, rather quickly.

Could a Louisiana resident not make over $100k per year, but still qualify for medicaid because of a medical condition?

Is there an income threshold requirement regardless?

The parents income is not considered if the dependent receiving Medicaid has special needs. I know, my child is one such recipient.

My special needs child also receives Medicaid as a secondary payer for my health insurance because of special needs. The kicker is that we were on the waiting list for this assistance for nine years. For nine years we private paid aides and for everything not covered by Blue Cross. Our in reimbursed out of pocket medical expenses averaged more than $35,000 per year.

All this ^^ is correct

Baws Can’t be paying for health insurance when you got a F250 payment, a boat payment, a McMansion payment and child support to 4 different women

You guys may be right, but the amount of people with special needs children is nowhere near enough to explain 80% ineligibilty rate

Wow

I was going to say. How is this even possible?

But the state didn't even have a system in place to verify income? Lmao. Gotta love it

Which you usually look to purchase in your 60's...so when someone ends up with young on-set dementia at 51...what should their family do? Just throw up their hands and give the skilled nursing facility all their assets?

If you're waiting to purchase LTC in your 60s, you're going to run that risk. Every situation is different, and it sounds like yours is personal, but in general, you should pay for the services as you go. If you use $500k in care, and you've got $500k in assets, who else should be expected to pay for it?

ETA - doing legal and moral things to protect assets is fine, but many folks cross that line.

Yeah I came here to say this same exact thing. But I have to think the auditor didn’t include the special needs cases, as those kids DO qualify under the rules. Plus it wouldn’t come close to explaining 80%.

Just more proof that the government should be completely out of the healthcare biz.

so he picked 100 people who were deemed eligible under the rules.

People are acting like this is a valid sample, but it nowhere says he selected them randomly. Or that he didn’t pick another hundred if the first group didn’t pan out like he hoped.

Tough talking AG Jeff Landry should be going after all this fraud. If he’s not, then it means (1) the fraud claims are bogus and puffed up for political headlines or (2) Landry is soft on fraud.

They were selected randomly. It is in the report's scope and methodology.

Remember, the Legislative Auditors are a bunch of state employees, often with a political ax to grind. I have trouble putting much stock into their findings. All the people know who work in that office flamed out in public accounting.

Medicaid despite annual incomes exceeding $300,000.

Four other recipients had six-figure incomes. One of them, with an income of $111,785 per year, received $17,807 in Medicaid payments. Another, with an annual income of $126,284, spent 12 months on Medicaid and received nearly $11,000 in payments, according to the report.

What professions are these people in?

I'm in the wrong industry. I need to go back to school immediately for process technology.

It takes a truly incompetent government to let them.

Surprise, people will take shite if you let them. This is why the government should stay out of the private sector.

This report was done by the Performance division which specializes in program evaluation. These aren't accountants.
