It's both.

Necessities cost money. Housing, food, health insurance, a car unless you live in a city and then you pay more for housing.

Much easier to beg for "free" medical care.

The tendency to splurge consistently on nonessentials is causing young democrat voters to skimp on other important items. Case in point: A good 38% of young democrat voters claim they can't afford to fund a retirement plan because they don't have enough money. Meanwhile, 35% say they can't afford a life insurance policy, 28% can't afford to pay off credit card debt, and 26% can't afford car repairs.

Fixed it.

I said not necessarily.

But I doubt the guy I was responding to is making minimum wage. And even then, if you are smart about it you can have money saved even on minimum wage. Just like you can make 80k and still live paycheck to paycheck. Budget properly and its not a problem.

Health insurance bought by me costs $750/mo. Through work, it costs $120/mo, but I've been fighting with Caremark about meds for two months now. The meds would cost me $1100/mo if I stayed on the work plan.

$750/mo = $9000/yr
$120/mo = $2400/yr

That's a big difference, and there are significantly cheaper plans that my company offers. Without knowing the background info, it's hard to make a judgment on that circumstance

most will just pull out the plastic and charge it.....

on a side note, two weeks ago my compressor went out on my 4 ton unit, so i replaced the entire condensing unit. $1200 for the condenser and $200 cash for the tech. moved some money around from my accounts.

Then the following week i get a check back from the dentist for $750 as insurance actually covered my daughter procedure, and then got back another $180 from the hospital for a bill we over paid a year ago. having to move money back into accounts.

Literally was wondering on the way to work this morning how much the average amount of savings is in America. I guess this pretty much answers that ...

USA Today about to be attacked on social media for not being understanding of the struggles of the average American living paycheck to paycheck while the fat cats keep getting richer and richer *said in Bernie Sanders voice to the stupid masses*

Its true. I see it all the time in the repair business. Average transmission repair is around 2000.00. Many people dont have the cash and put it on credit cards. The ones that dont have a credit card get denied by finance companies to fix their 6 year old car that they just paid off BUT BUT have no problem getting approved for 40000.00 to buy a new vehicle. Now how does that make sense?

i get hard on myself for mistakes in this area and i make a bunch (although overall, i could have been so much worse)

i've started waching dave ramsey clips on youtube and GODDAMN do they put things in perspective

it's like the issues being discussed. it seems so regular for people to have $15k+ in credit card debt. how in the frick do you get in that hole without a long term hospital stay or something? people who carry huge, high-interest debts make ME feel anxious
