This guy is going to jail. He is not getting out of this. We just don’t know how long yet. No way in Chicago is this guy walking. I’m not discussing law just reality. Anyone wants to ban bet let’s go.

How many more examples do you need of the media going against the people’s interest. You can’t believe anything they say. It’s pretty ridiculous the amount of lies they have spewed.

The teens look completely caught off guard and not in offense / preparing for defense -mode. Was the dude paranoid? I don't see anything that says threat to me. The girl walking up from the parking lot to meet her friends...just happened to converge where he's working on his bike...unless audio says otherwise but the girl's walk is very slow and casual...I don't see anything alarming leading up to him shooting.

The lifeguard claims he reasonably believed the teens were trying to steal his bike and attack him. The law allows you to use deadly force to protect yourself and your property if it’s reasonable under the circumstances.
You’re conflating the two halves of this requirement. It goes like this:
(1) Did the lifeguard believe he was at risk of death or great bodily harm? This is a subjective component, and yes, that’s clearly met here.
(2) Was that belief reasonable? Not did HE think it was reasonable. But “objectively” was it reasonable? (The law uses “objectively” in a funny way. Ultimately it’ll either be the judge’s or jury’s belief that decides this.) The point is, it’s not enough for the guy himself to say it was reasonable. This is where we bring in all these other indicators, like the apparent lack of a weapon on any of the kids, the apparent lack of a violent act by them, and so on.
And sure, in his defense, any prior altercation possibly can operate to make it reasonable here. All that we’re trying to say is that whatever prior altercation might have happened, it’s going to have to pull a ton of weight, because basically every detail from the video cuts sharply against this being a reasonable use of deadly force.

That’s great.
Reasonable, intelligent adults who think for themselves don’t just automatically do the opposite of what someone says. Mistrusting them for having a poor track record is a reasonable default stance. You still have to look at the evidence that’s being presented and think it through. Sometimes someone tells you a one-sided story because the story really is one-sided.

Agreed. He just reacted and committed immediately.
Honestly with some people if they are pulling the piece they are shooting the piece.

If I were him, I would get out on bail and bail to Brazil. Rest of my life in prison?

Based on that video alone, I would say he has problems.
Especially shooting the second one who was no threat to him at that moment.

HOLY shite
I thought the same, but I looked it up and Chicago is indeed more dangerous today. 18 homicides per 100,000 in Chicago 2024 and only about a dozen er 100,000 in NYC in the 80’s. I was surprised by this.

He’s not defending them. He’s arguing that this is not clearly a case of self-defense. And based on what we know so far, he’s correct.

In 1980, NYC's murder rate was 25.8/100k

Is the second kid that got shot holding a gun? He appears to be flanking and holding something.
Looks like he took a moving head shot too. Damn.

To think and talk about men on the internet that I don’t know?
There’s never a time when I do that, so I don’t know. I see you name dropped me again in another thread I wasn’t even in an hour later, so maybe those are prime dickriding hours.
