Put solar panels on urban rooftops instead of ruining farmland.

OK?
My point was that the parish isn't losing much by turning down the solar farm compared to other projects that have happened or are being proposed.

interesting, i thought that was BR but it doesn't shock me because they're both in so many different things.

There’s a lot of talk of a solar company in exploratory talks with landowners in Jeff Davis to put some on farmland, nothing official but I assume they try hard now. There’s an Ohio based company that just bought the old Zagis cotton spinning building in Lacassine that makes parts for solar equipment. Going to be interesting going forward.

What if it's in the desert?
But it’s not. It’s in commonly overcast and hurricane prone south LA

There's always fly by night "developers" trying to scoop up land rights. 9/10 never go anywhere because once someone does the congestion survey and engineering report they're basically un-sellable.

I'm not saying they will be a replacement, but they are getting more efficient by the year
Doesn't matter, even at an impossible 100% efficiency there is simply not enough energy available for a given area of space to make the math work. The max density of solar energy is around 1000W/m and that's in a desert near the equatorial belt.

Utility companies will have to get in on this sooner rather than later, to bring down rates for consumers
That isn't happening either, not at utility scale. The best solar can do is be a supplementary source of power.

cover 1000 acres with 6000 panels and generate 375 megawatts.
Something's not right. That's only 6 panel/1000 acres of land?? Are there some zero's missing somewhere?

It's no where near right. 375MW would be 600k modules and 1000 acres is only going to yield 200ish MWp.

Clearing hundreds of acres of land for solar panels in the name of green energy is stupidly hilarious
Better than the hideous wind turbines

$440 million solar farm in Calcasieu Parish shot down
Good for the people fighting back against this scam to preserve their community. Solar farms cause more harm than good to the environment and any landowner that leases out to these shitbag companies deserve what’s going to happen in the near future. They’ll be stuck with a defunct environmental nightmare with no funds to remediate.

What are your concerns? BX requires remediation funds and so does every tax equity financier in the market. The leaching and lack of return to greenfield funds is an outdated talking point that hasn't been relevant for any systems constructed recently. It's also good to remember these have 35 year useful lifes.

Good news!
This mentality is what is wrong with this state. It would only bring jobs and potential taxes once profitable to the state. Not a lot of jobs while operating, but 300 during construction. I imagine it's solely because political leaning, but you can lean right and still want the state to do well.

Naw.
Certain land is. Land out in BFE is not.
The US still has a ton of land.

I don’t give two shits about “green energy”, but what happens when the majority decides to dictate what private landowners can do on their property with other things?

This is literally happening all over the state. CLECO has multiple 180 to 200 MW solar farms. NextEra is building one right now in Krotz Springs that will provide 200 MW of solar for DEMCO. NextEra is also building a 200MW farm in Beauregard that will be dispatched for Lafayette. This is here now. And its growing.

that sucks for the landowner he was about to be rolling in the dough and they were clearly ok with it

yeah it does. We had a wind project that the FAA killed because the DoD was using our property for low flight training. It sucked and we lost a ton of money but of course still have to pay a shite load in property taxes.
