It was supposed to happen in the Gillis/Moss Bluff area and even reach into Western Jeff Davis Parish. It was going to cover 1000 acres with 6000 panels and generate 375 megawatts.

It was supposed to create 300 jobs during construction and bring in around $87 million in new tax revenue. All of that is a drop in the bucket of what the LNG expansions have done for the area.

The company, Aypa Power, is owned by Blackstone. With Blackstone being involved it seems this was purely a tax credit grab as it doesn't seem feasible to build this in a hurricane-prone area unless heavily subsidized.

The residents have been fighting against it and were successful last night.

Calcasieu Parish Zoning Board Rejects Solar Farm Proposal in Ward One

Glad to see the people who would have lived next to it push back and win but I doubt they give up so Allen and Beauregard Parish better watch out.

Good solar & wind are bull shite - 1000 acres for 375 megawatts is crazy - you could use a 1/4 of that land for a gas turbine and generate 6 to 8 times more power.

There are already large tracts of empty flat area on top of big box stores and amazon warehouses they can put solar panels on.

Why do they insist on taking up farmland, or unused land, for these projects?

It seems like the opposite of being environmentally friendly.

I don’t give two shits about “green energy”, but what happens when the majority decides to dictate what private landowners can do on their property with other things? Just wait until a majority of people think hunting is too cruel and you shouldn’t be allowed to do it on your property - or raising cows.

Solar needs to stick to personal/business/building

Clearing hundreds of acres of land for solar panels in the name of green energy is stupidly hilarious

You mean zoning? That has only existed for decades.

Wait until they need to dispose of the panels and batteries

That’s very little power for such a large area

Doubtful. They’re already tapped out on tax equity for this year and next and have been pulling in other banks to porpoise the tax equity capital.

If it's not being used for anything else what's the problem?

What if it's in the desert?

Anytime I see that name, my antenna goes up. There's some shady shite afoot with those people.

So calling it “zoning” makes it OK for others to dictate how you use your private property?

Not to mention parking lots.

I have flown over several in the desert. One I see constantly is on the flight path from L.A. to Vegas and there is literally nothing else around it. That makes much more sense there than in a hurricane-prone area with neighbors.

You would be cool with someone popping up some section 8 houses right next door to you?

Something’s not right here.
1000acres should be around 200-250MW. And 375MW should be a lot more modules.
