It's possible. I read something over the weekend that there is fear the virus was spread massively during Mardi Gras. Several out of state people that have tested positive had been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

You’re dividing total cases by number of tests done by the state lab. Now that private labs are running, we expect to see the state lab percentages go up. Not sure if it’s necessary for the state lab to confirm positive results from private labs.. but even if so, they will be presumably be getting fed a much higher percentage of positive samples.
I’m also encouraged by the 37% positive results, considering our overly strict testing requirements until now. But if that rate holds true for the Baton Rouge General Tests administered yesterday, we'll be suddenly looking at over 60 known cases in EBR. Results were promised within 3-5 days, so we may see something begining Thursday.

I would very much like to see the numbers that doctor mentioned compared to SARS and H1N1 in the USA.

The “details” greatly fricking matter now that the entire population is having their lives impacted, some of them severely, just because of the very few that are testing positive.

Closing Bars and restaurants is the best thing the state could've done to mitigate the spread. The people of this state will never listen to advisories regarding social distancing, the only way to make it work was closing bars and restaurants. Hopefully there aren't house parties all of New Orleans this weekend...

Think about where we were 10 days ago. Sports were progressing as normal, the US had less than 500 cases and only 19 deaths (almost exclusively at a nursing home in WA). 10 days later we have 5100+ cases, no sports, no restaurants, movie theaters, bars, etc. and massive regulations on public gatherings. The thing is in the process of skyrocketing and we need to slow the spread

Its a port and just had Mardi gras. People spreading it around the state are the ones not from New Orleans. Thing was here. Don't be so fricking stupid. The # of positive cases coming back is actually much lower than I expected. If they tested every citizen in the state, that % would be even lower.

Definitely a big part of it are people with it before shutdowns and restrictions started. Even CDCs increase of test quantities published yesterday (Graph below might be updated since) was from was updating daily test totals from dates across last week and lists 12th as still incomplete or in process (that's just logging items received on 12th by CDC regardless of being confirmed or not & Today shows 13th). Testing increased a lot first 2 weeks of March even before doing away with restrictions on who could be tested. Confirmed increases early this week are going to be from last week or further back with the patients' illness onset dates and presumptive and later confirmations rest of this week and into next are going to be highly impacted from all the patients doctors and nurses thought last week were highly likely to be infected but couldn't get tested (including some already in ICUs).
Testing numbers based on date CDC received specimens to confirm.

This mornings number increased from 132 last night to 171 and now 4 deaths.
didn't we just start actually testing? Doesn't it seem like we would have spikes or increases for the fist few days of testing?
