I’d go spend a year in Cabo fishing, playing golf, and relaxing

I could make this work, without kids or a wife. If you're a man, you don't need crazy expenditures. Just keep yourself alive, have a couple books around, learn a craft like carpentry to keep you occupied. If you need more than that, you are using money and status as a replacement for being an interesting person.

That may work for a minute, but there's always some person out there more interesting and rich than you. So you will lose that battle with a woman who loves money and status.

For example, you can't pick Munich and then travel all through Europe for the year. You must stay in Munich.

You can choose how to interpret that all you want, but “ You must stay in Munich,” would qualify as stating you can’t leave town for a few hours. It drastically alters the equation if you’re allowed to take day trips.

I have had this before, btw. It was actually 4600ish to account for taxes. You get accustomed to lots of money.
