Well, it can happen any day now. I grew up in Palo Alto and we were priced out almost 30 years ago. Prices keep rising.
When my Dad retired from Stanford, he just rented his house in Palo Alto for years and years. When I came back to Palo Alto last year, I just moved into the house. I would hate to buy something in this market. I have the money. It just seems stupid to pay that much for a house.

That is a local community making a decision. Palo Alto isn't cheap and if they have approval from their constituents, that is their business.
And when California comes to fedgov for a bailout because they won't cut spending? Who's business is it then?

It's OOC. My folks had a 3 bd place on Park Blvd with a nice backyard in the 80's and they both worked at a lumber yard.

I believe they are now running a $2 billion surplus.

Yes, supply and demand will eventually kick in.

I'm not reading the whole thread, but from what I understand, the housing situation in that part of California has more to do with ridiculous zoning/building restrictions than almost anything else.

I work for a tech company but not in SV. Its unreal how much people pay for housing out there. Its not uncommon for rent to be $4k on a 1000 sq ft house in a shitty hood.

What if the husband wants it?
Then he deserves to be poor with that kind of fiscal irresponsibility to have a mortgage that high of % of net income.

And what idiot is marrying a count who demands a house that costs $3k a month.
Just FYI, a one-bedroom apartment out here costs upwards of $1500 a month. $3K per month rent house is not really all that expensive. It's about average for a decent area. A nice area will cost you a LOT more.
And I'm nowhere near Palo Alto.

I was wondering that too. Most of your typical private Catholic schools in Louisiana are nowhere near that each month. Hell, some are $5400 a year.

average tuition for private school in Palo Alto is $20K+ per kid. One of my coworkers has 3 kids in Catholic School in L.A. and they pay roughly $12K per kid per year.

Obviously if we're talking about Cali then $250k for a family isn't much.
If we are talking about Louisiana, posters like django saying that isn't much are full of BS.
