So the bay area doesn't need firefighters, teachers, police, etc?

These would be the first people in history to have to commute

$250,000 a year definitely doesn't go as far as it used to.

It goes pretty damn far for most places still:

You are looking at 13,000 take home after taxes, health ins, and 401k

So lets say you have a real nice house= $2500 a month note
Nice cars- $1,000 a month note
two little shits private school if needed= $1500 a month
cable bill-$200 a month
cell phone=$200 a month
electricty=$200 a month
gas= $250 a month
groceries=$500 a month

I used big numbers and we still have $6,700 a month left over for entertainment,vacation, savings etc etc

That is easy living

My company is in Palo Alto. I live within walking distance, but you would not believe some of the commutes that my employees make. I have 4 guys that drive in from Modesto. They work 12 hours on Monday, share a room at a motel, work 10 hours on Tuesday, and drive home. They are off on Wednesday. They repeat the 2 day ritual on Thursday and Friday. It is absolutely crazy.

That's their choice. What's their income? If it's 250k, they prob a my have 1M dollar homes in Modesto.

Yeah he's either trolling, full of shite, or seriously detached from reality.

Those are Louisiana and Mississippi estimates. Most of those numbers are no where close to what it would cost to live in CA.

Thanks for that breakdown. I could fricking feed my kids and provide a decent roof over their heads just about anywhere in the world for that much money. People are spoilt.

Those are estimates for 99% of America. The minority is the places where 250k doesnt go very far

Areas like CA and NY are different animals. Paying $700K for a 3BR, 2BA 1300 sq ft house doesn't sound affordable to me and that's just the mortgage. I'm sure everything else is much higher than the estimates that were quoted in the earlier post.

$1500/month for two kids in private school? Daycare in Nashville is close to $1,500 per month for one kid.

Also, I can prove how stupid this is for CA too:

Here is my original statement:

quote:

So lets say you have a real nice house= $2500 a month note Nice cars- $1,000 a month note two little shits private school if needed= $1500 a month cable bill-$200 a month cell phone=$200 a month electricty=$200 a month gas= $250 a month groceries=$500 a month I used big numbers and we still have $6,700 a month left over for entertainment,vacation, savings etc etc That is easy living

So for CA:

$2,500 note goes to $5,000(that gets you a million dollar home)
$1,000 car note is the same
Little shits private school goes from $1,500 to $0. It aint going to be needed there
cable goes from $200-$250
your electricity will stay the same, or maybe go down. so lets keep it the same at $200
cell phone stays at $200
gas goes from $250 to $500
groceries goes from $500 to $750

So now you still have $5,000 for entertainment/savings/vacation a month
