wild.

the commutes are horrible, because working class people (and apparently that means high middle) can't afford housing near their work.

For me that most interesting thing in the clipped in article is that the housing will be for people without a car. Does this mean no garage or parking spaces provided? Like Manhattan.

North Dallas is definitely NOT a buyers market right now. From what I hear, Houston and Austin are not either. Frickin California transplants.

It is not all California but someone can come from California, sell their little house for a wad of money, then come here and buy a much nicer and bigger house.

I hope the seller's market holds of a year or two - I'm thinking about selling my house.

So many replies in here are hilarious. If you live in an area where it is $1million for a 1,300 square foot home, you're a fricking retard. If you have to pay > $5K to send your kids to school, move. My son's public high school in Slidell produces more National Merit Semifinalists than schools like Brother Martin. It's called common sense, people. If you can't live VERY well on $200K, you're doing a LOT of things very wrong.

I don't understand the comment, Count.

If you mean it is a "play farm," you are incorrect. I'm growing some organic vegetables and herbs this year.

I have cattle. Someone else manages them (bales the hay, takes them to the sale barn, etc.) but I also work with them (mostly taking them hay and feed).

You have camels and goats, cows and stuff. I call that a petting zoo.

If your selling your land, how many acres?

You couldn't pay me to live in a shithole like Slidell. It's all relative to ones perception of "living". If the local government and its constituents support the legislation, anyone outside that jurisdictions opinion is irrelevant.

Reality is more like this: Three little shits private school if needed= $5400 a month

Only on the OT should sending three kids to private school be considered a basic right. I'm sorry it is expensive to live there, but subsidizing your housing so your kids can go to private school is ridiculous.

Additionally, is it even necessary? You're not sending your kids to Richmond or Oakland public schools if you live in Palo Alto.

I am pretty sure that $1M won't get you a 1300 sq ft home in Palo Alto these days. I would guess it is more like $2M, but I don't really follow real estate.

It is like I said earlier, if I didn't already have a house here, I am sure that I wouldn't buy one. I think the market is totally retarded.

Exactly. I'd pocket that money.

Well, either buy something that you can afford and not blow past your means, or move somewhere with more affordable housing for your budget.

No it is a fundamental human right that I should be able to afford a 2 bd in downtown sanfrancisco on my salary as a barista/artist/full time civil rights activist.

I don't have camels and goats.

Goats are obnoxious. They'll ruin everything if you let them.

It is ridiculous that someone working cannot afford a liveable house.

Seriously, how can a barista afford to live anywhere in the vicinity of Palo Alto. I'm not suggesting their housing should be subsidized, but it seems impossible for anyone in the service industry to make it there. You'd think there wouldn't be a coffee shop within 60 miles of Palo Alto based on the article in the OP.

Land is reasonable where my farm is.

I'm not selling, in fact, I'm trying to buy some adjoining property.

My cows would miss me.

This is where I eventually want to put a house:
