The middle class is in terrible shape. Your smartphone is a distraction. It's not there because we're doing better, just computer technology has gotten better.
But hell we were all supposed to be the Jetsons by now.

man could work a regular factory job and live a nice middle class life while his wife stayed home. Communities were tight knit and people didn't lock their doors.
Unions were great for the working man

I think the majority of people would rather live during the current time period rather than the 1950's.
Because the majority living in the 50's are dead or old.

I really wouldn't miss cell phones much but it would be hard to give up the internet.
No, I don't want to go back to the 50's. Standards of living were much lower (houses were tiny for one thing), the cold war was on and a hot war was in Korea, there have been a lot of health advances, travel is much easier now, television was still black and white with poor image quality and limited programming, 60's and 70's music still hadn't happened, the sexual revolution hadn't happened...

But yes, I'd rather the 50s than today. Chivalry meant something, childhood innocence still existed, and people respected values, family, and their communities.
Emmitt Till would disagree with you.

Agreed, we're not virtuous or courageous like we used to be.
Just ask black people who lived in the south during the 50s.

The funny thing is most blacks are probably more disgruntled and less satisfied today than they were then.
You can thank liberal policies which have destroyed the black family unit and any sense of self-respect and responsibility in that community.

Back then they didn't have internet pron or shaved pussies. Only time a woman got that beaver skinned was when she had a baby.

I think the 90s were the best time to be alive. Cell phones and social media has really began to ruin society as a whole in so many ways.
The 90s really were pretty great, and I say that as someone who experienced them as a kid/teenager.
Healthcare costs weren't exorbitant like they are now, the price of goods was decently low, we had the internet but back then it was used for education and good, we had cellular mobility but it wasn't the attention-sucker like it is now, kids had to go outside to play (though it did see the dawn of the video game as addiction age), the economy was better, and we had won the Cold War and were enjoying pre-9/11 peace.
My mother raised my brother and me as a single working mother on a teacher's income and we managed to get by just fine. She's the first to admit that she doesn't know how she would've made ends meet under current economic conditions as a single mother with two kids.

Maybe. But I'm not going to pretend we acted ethically or morally toward black people in the 50s. Some did, obviously, but we tend to overlook that rather big black eye in wishing for the past.

At least people in the 1950s didn't start stupid troll threads like this.

Meh, this tends to be the point where people conflate hyper-nostalgia with fact.
Per the FBI, violet crime rates today have dropped to levels equal to or below those of the 1950s:
