Compared to the decades before??? I say yes..... The 50's gave us SOOO much more on a positive side than any decade before it.... In todays society....

There is NOTHING COOL......... Unless you live in Montana or Idaho or Wyoming...... Fresh air, NO CRIME... Very little amount of people.... And the views are great.....

I feel like the 24 hour, ratings-driven news cycle that we have now makes things seem much worse than they are. Fear is a powerful tool.

So true........ I guess to be fair... Its when and where you grow up that will make a difference on how you feel on this topic.... I grew up In a small town in Michigan in the 60's and 70's... There was no crime. Fresh air... Just an all-American type town.... I had the same advantadges as a kid in California or Fla...

There is no "better decade" period. All have had strengths and weaknesses. Technology rocks today, but the people absolutely suck. Whiniest decade ever. People whine about everything and feel entitled.

At least we are not whining about black people using the same bathrooms or waterfountains

Or whining about Elvis moving his hips.

I would agree with that. I'd definitely take the 1950s over WW2 and the Great Depression. I'd also take them over the 1960s.

But I'd take any decade from the 1970s to now over the 1950s.

Well that's just because we evolved as a society... More things to use to make life easier... And make people more lazy...... IMO.........

I lived in my 20's in the 80's...My fav decade.... The 90's to now... Society sucks.... 9/11 changed me quite a bit as far as how great America is..... I mean those bastards came into MY BACKYAD and did this...How could we let that happen???????????

A man could work a regular factory job and live a nice middle class life while his wife stayed home. Communities were tight knit and people didn't lock their doors.

People loved their country, our culture and traditions were much more unified and in tact.

It's true as corny as it sounds.

Jim Crow
Black voter suppression
Rampant employment discrimination
No civil rights statutes

Society's atomized, people are isolated, neighbors don't mean much, and a lot more kids grow up listless with no clue what to believe in. Marriage, family, morals, and public schools have gone down the crapper, and generally both spouses have to work just to barely get by in the middle class.

All very true. From a society/country perspective, we are far worse off than the 1950's.
