From a society/country perspective, we are far worse off than the 1950's.

Glad to see you thought the 50s were better too.

Wow, but I'm sure a lot of posters would think life in America was better with discrimination and segregation.

Ya, both of us agree the 50s were better so we should try to see who else agrees with us.

One of these things is a really, really good thing though. You even stated it correctly.

The Red Scare
Was correct. All the Communist Party platforms have come to pass. And a Communist is mayor of NYC, they just honored the KGB spies who sold us out in the 50s. A socialist is leading the Dem candidates

Exactly the same

No, men and women simply have defined roles and they accepted it. And everyone was happier and more stable for it

Local problem. The murder rate nationally is the lowest it's been in over 50 years.

Now, other categories of crime...that's a different story. The link only goes back to 1960 but all other categories of crime are up significantly. And that's one of the advantages the 1950s have over now. Which goes back to the point about some things being better and some being worse.

Rate per 100K halfway down

it was a slow process.....and now, just look at the frikkin hell hole we are in....

EXTREME
democracy
demagogues
license
impulse
agitation
discontent
anarchy
chaos
socialism

I'd like to try ludes. But the 70s as a whole seems like a rough time other than the music. Economically and politically we were in the crapper.
