And I didn't mislead you. I live about a mile from what you'd probably call ghetto. I live in the city limits of Atlanta, the most popular black city in America. All of that is true. If you live in Atlanta, and unless you're behind a gate on an estate, you're not insulated from black folks. Just how it is.

You're focused on lynchings. I'm focused on Jim Crow in general - i.e. systematic, systemic, institionalized, government-sanctioned persecution of an entire segment of the population.
Anyone's answer to "would you rather be in the 50's" should properly be viewed through the prism of how society was treating its most unfortunate. And the truth is very very ugly. If a person from the persecuted class wouldn't happily answer "why, the 1950's, sir!", then that should influence your own answer. A willingness to just brush aside an entire relevant facet of a society because you didn't happen to be the persecuted one is crass and immoral.

You believe your values have to be shared by everyone. They aren't.
No one thinks Jim Crowe laws were awesome. Maybe, just maybe...some of us believe government created poverty traps are just as bad.

From the stories I have been told and just the films I have seen.. The 50's were WAY COOL.... America grew up in that decade... And changed how the rest of society went forward... People talk about the "freedom movement" in the 60's.... It was caused by what ways the 50's changed America... The sports , The cars, The being able to walk along the street and not worry about being robbed or killed... The Music.... TV came of age.... YES Its way better than today.... So were the 80's... And remember a GUY[Reagan] From the 50's shaped the 80's into what they were......

I wouldn't call them way cool. I would just recognize that the '50s had some very positive features--the civil rights movement, rock and roll, awesome cars, economic prosperity, and low crime.
There were plenty of negatives as well. Segregation and the threat of WW3 being at the top of the list.
