Yep, he knew what he was doing, enjoy hell for the next 70 years if you survive. Imagine if this was a "person of color" we'd have to hear how terrible it is to sentence this young man to life in prison (Karmelo Anthony supporters I'm looking at you ). And Nolan Wells race baiters you're in the same boat !

Yes, she’s the court reporter. That’s the new way of scribing, as opposed to the older, more difficult, shorthand typing.

It’s also recorded. Having someone actively transcribe means you aren’t sitting there listening to a recording trying to figure out who said what, what was said when someone else coughed, etc. A transcript of this will have to be prepared by a court reporter anyway. Might as well make the process easier.
