Up north we call it skitching. No sled required.

Wait around at a stop sign and grab on to the rear bumper as they pull off. Try not to be the kid by the tailpipe, squat down, hold on and try to stay on your feet as long as you can.

Usually they won’t know you’re back there but sometimes they will and they might take you for a high speed fishtailing ride.

It’s best to prepare with bread bags over your socks.

Gen X kids were built tougher.

RIP young one.

How fast was he pulling the sled?

Dude gonna feel guilt for that forever. Even if it wasn't his fault.

the sled struck a curb and collided into a tree.

It doesn't take much speed to be fatal when it's head vs tree.

Sad situation

My guess is he took a corner and underestimated the whip effect. That would explain the sled hitting the curb.

Sad story.

Sad. Pulling with a car or truck is crazy dangerous. However, every year, a lot of folks are hurt or killed sledding. Mainly by hitting trees.

I messed that up. It is on the other side of 45 degrees. It is about 30 degrees. Got my degrees reversed.

Yup...I remember guys in high school doing this. A surprise no one caught a toe, face planted, and died.

That would still be steeper than the steepest Olympic luge and bobsled tracks.

It was on a neighborhood street, don't have to be flying when you hit a fixed object like a tree with your head/face.

Very sad

I somehow survived my teens and I did some dumb stuff like this.

Same…

Their parents probably did too, which is why this was no big deal for them. Stuff can still happen and in this case, it did unfortunately.

We used to do that on knee boards behind 3 wheelers in the 80’s. Sad but accidents happen

3 wheelers were dangerous enough by themselves

We did something like that a lot but only on a frozen lake. Lots of room to slingshot the old saucer sled to crazy speeds.

One night I hit a ski bouy that was still in the water - fricking thing launched me into orbit damn near.

You always have to remember that no matter what you're doing or where you're doing it, you're almost certainly the softest thing involved in the process.

People in the South act like such idiots when it snows. I’ll bet the kid driving the jeep was whipping the riders around like they were tubing. Dumbass probably went around a corner and slung them right into the curb.

Just because it snows, doesn’t mean you have to act like a tard. But people do, and shite like this happens. Human behavior is so predictable, especially with morons like these.

the area of Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Cour

Looks like Majestic curves just before Killian. Taking that curve too fast or maybe making a wide turn onto Majestic from Killian too fast

From satellite view which is probably a year old the trees aren’t big or wide when image taken almost look relatively freshly planted or whatever it’s called with trees, but there are a lot of them planted one after the other maybe 15 to 20 feet apart right along side Majestic (one section south of Killian has them on both sides of Majestic). There is also some stone bench area with a stone column for something right there with a wide walking/biking trail in between it and some of the trees. Other than those and a house on the corner it’s looks like an open area at this intersection. Could have just as easily missed the tree or just side swiped it a little and ended up in open area or on the trail and less severely injured.

Hopefully the 2nd girl is stable and doing better.

The tree that people are tying ribbons around is not very big.
