16 year olds are known for that.

I didn’t know they had any neighborhoods with trees in Frisco
This took place two streets over from me in my neighborhood. Speed limits are 25 MPH throughout the neighborhood. And there are plenty of trees here.

If Olympic luge grades are less than 30 degrees, it is as steep or steeper. The only place you would see an elevation gain on a road that quickly would be in some mountain towns. From flat to an incline at 30 degrees for 200-250 yards to the top.
Anyone I ever knew who saw it for the 1st time would agree it was the steepest hill they had ever seen anywhere in the vicinity of where I grew up. Could barely pedal a bike up it and had to zig zag sideways to do it on a Diamondback.
I lived at the bottom and found a lot of unbroken arrowheads in that basin along the creek that flowed through my back yard.

I just saw a video on channel 5 NBC Dallas. It did not show the accident. It was taken on a home's security camera. It showed the Jeep pulling the sled on the street in front of the home. Seconds later it showed them on a perpendicular street where the Jeep had taken a left turn. You could see the left turn because there appears to be a park of some type directly across the street from the house.
It looks to me like the Jeep was going between 5 and 10 miles per hour tops when it passed in front of the house. It definitely slowed down when it took the left turn. He must have been going faster than what I observed when the accident occurred sometime after that.

A black ski slope is usually between 30 and 40 degrees from horizontal. While the poster clearly took a bad WAG, it was still a great story. I’d have loved to have seen that.

quote:Tragic story. I wonder how this will be treated from an insurance standpoint. Does auto coverage apply in this scenario?
The driver is going to be seeing the inside of a lot of courtrooms between the criminal and civil trials that are coming his way.

Here it is.
NBC DFW
Shows the video you are talking about as well as the tree they hit. From watching this and looking at Google Maps, if I had to guess, the driver went around that curve in the road too fast or didn’t realize it was there. The Ring video is taken from 3848 Sevilla and shows them turning left onto Majestic Gardens. The accident probably happened 1-2 minutes after that video, maybe less.

The other teenage girl who was riding with her has now died.
I think sledding behind anything motorized is very dangerous.

If I were to guess I imagine they took a corner, and he accelerated out of the corner before they were lined back up with path of the jeep. Then slingshot physics like they were being pulled behind a ski boat took over and they accelerated much faster than the jeep. A slalom skiier typically reaches peak speeds 1.5x's as much as the boat speed. With less friction I imagine the sled could have easily been 2x the speed of the jeep as the riders/rope reached the "bottom" of the pendulum action. That speed would be sideways perpendicular to the direction of the jeep towards the curb. He might have been only doing 10-15mph but slingshot them 20-30 into the curb and tree.

A second teenage girl has died in Texas after she was critically injured in a sledding accident that killed her best friend, according to their families and local police.
Frisco police confirmed Wednesday that the second 16-year-old girl died of her injuries at a hospital.
The teen’s family identified her as Grace Brito. The other teen killed was earlier identified as Elizabeth Angle by her family.
Grace’s mother, Tracy Brito, told FOX4 Dallas-Fort Worth that her daughter just got her driver’s license two months ago and had been excited to sign up as an organ donor.
"We are still here going through the organ donation process to honor Gracie's wishes," Tracy Brito told the outlet. "She was a selfless person who always wanted to make others smile and happy. God took a good one away far too soon."

Saw the news about the 2nd girl this morning. Beautiful girls. The kid that was pulling them around is gonna have nightmares about that moment for the rest of his life.
Also, not a good news story to hear with two young daughters myself, and the toddler absolutely loved being pulled around behind the gator the past few days. 3.5 YO and a 5 month old.
There was also a teenage boy that was killed when his sled hit a fence. I think that was over in Collin County, as well.

I think the boy will be charged with some sort of homicide since there are now 2 deaths. He obviously didn’t intend to cause harm, but his actions did, he will have to live with that the rest of his life.

You have to go to McKinney, Prosper, Celina, Anna, Melissa for trees

The tree that they showed as the one they hit in the news video can't be more than a foot in diameter. Seems kinda crazy that it would have killed both of them. Must have been going super fast and both went head first into it. What a tragic story.

We took dinner over to one of the girls house last night. As you can imagine how devastating this is for the families. The boy was arrested and charged for involuntary manslaughter x 2. He was the BF of one of the girls. Such a sad situation.
